I just realized two things about two sepeare situations in the ufc right now that I think need to be pointed out.
First Matt Hughes vs GSP
Second Chuck vs Wanderlei
1st
I'll admit so far I've fallen for both cons. Matt Hughes is going to get destroyed being the first one. I sat down and thought about it... Wait a minute... Is Matt Hughes the kinda person who would show up just for a pay day?
He's spent the last couple days in the ultimate fighter convincing the fans (or who ever is watching) he's about to wrap up his fight career and retire soon. That he's not putting in the same performance he use to.
Hmmmm than why point it out? I'm not suggesting he's not going to retire. I'm suggesting he's not going half ass his performances as he's leading on to. GSP is taking the match on some level of short notice, he seemed some what tentative in his last fight with Kos .. (He did go the distance) This may well be Hughes best chance.
Further more if Hughes does win he'll be facing Serra next... We'll have some very pissed of Hughes haters if Matt gets past GSP.. beats Serra and than retires. I think Hughes’ timing couldn't be better on this one.
Second
I’m starting to suspect Wanderlei is going to win. Chute box (at least in theory) has put it’s first foot forward in defending Wanderlei at all costs and even before winning the belt this tradition has continued.
If.... If Wanderlei beats Chuck who’s his first Title defense? Forrest. I think if Wanderlei gets his hands on the belt again (this time in the ufc) we’ll have a new row of cans to look forward to facing the champ.
We really haven’t heard anything about Wanderlei’s current training and progress and the only thing I’ve heard so far is about how he’s shrinking bulk wise. I’m wondering if Wanderlei encouraged Shogun to train a little less.. And told him not to worry about Forrest as much so his first title defense would be easy. I mean considering the guy training Wanderlei was the guy training Forrest.. It makes you wonder.
Oh.. I’m forgetting the champ... you know the one Wanderlei knocked out twice? Suddenly his path to getting and keeping the title doesn’t seem that far off.
But when he does get it.. I’m expecting a healthy feed of ultimate fighters as his title contenders.
