It's officially December 4, and as promised, I've posted a 25-minute podcast over at lawless.libsyn.com about the past two decades of COTG life. It'll take a little while to download for you, but click the POD link and just leave the page open awhile after it seems like it should be done, and you'll be rewarded with my ramblings (if such can be called a reward). It just took me about 8 minutes or so with broadband to verify it was there. Enjoy!

Very fun. I haven't played quite so long(I didn't even get into wrestling till August 88, but ordered by December when I had the money) It was an off and on time for a while, but i'm still going strong. Mark's reminiscing made me think of my days and how much this game means not just to me but the community as a whole. Thank you Mark for sharing the memories and thank you Tom for creating the madness that is t his game.

Great stuff sir! Although I always thought Thantos & Billy Jo Boxer was a stranger team than Iron Mane & Killer Queen....

Awesome podcast Mark.
I'm jealous of the documentation of your fed's history as I lost all my notebooks when I went to college. (I think my dad threw them away)
Podcasting your fed results was very cool!
Payback beating Swarm in Mark's favorite card of the match!
To quote Ric Flair: WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Haha! The Exvenge is devestating when he hits it.
Amazing Mann and Kill Prey sounds like a cool feud.
Phantasy and Latasha in a Cygnus Adamanthium fists match! Wow, pretty brutal.
Gladiators win the Escape Match. But all over Endgame! Huge stuff, fans!
And a new GWF Champion! Great 20 year Anniversary Card!
I predict Payback captures the gold soon!

Mark, that was AWESOME. This should be mandatory listening for everyone in the COTG community. Great to re-live memories of the Club Galactica days for those who lived through it (and thanks for thinking of me and including my name!) and an excellent history lesson for those newcomers to the game. I'm pretty well sure without Club Galactic and my early friendship with you, along with those postcards from Tom, I would never have continued to play this game.

Mark's podcast was outstanding, and Matt is right that it should be mandatory listening.
Hearing Mark recount his initial COTG experiences reminded me of my early years with the game.
It took me back to a time when I got stuck living in Kentucky for a few months and knew no one except the younger brother of my sister's husband. He was a couple years older than me and owned COTG. The current year was 2091 and it was the most incredible thing I had ever seen.
For Christmas of that year, my father bought all the editions up to the current one for me. He even played out some matches with me. Those years are some of my favorite of the game's history, as I can remember him liking the concept but finding characters like Mutant and Creeper to be too crazy for his taste.
I also remember reading the handbooks for 2117 and 2118 on an airplane as I flew back home to Arkansas to visit my parents in March of 2004.
That would be the final time my father would be waiting for me at the Little Rock terminal. He died three months later. I think it's for that reason that I care so little for the Cosmic Battle storyline.
I go into these to explain how much COTG means to me. My girl calls it my "little wrestling game that I play in the basement," but it is so much more than that.
Each time I pull out my notebook to write results and story ideas, a little part of me is still that lonely, homesick 14 year-old who used the game as a way to cope with being in a new place.
Anyone who has met over the years knows that I am far different from the kid I was back then. It's also pretty cool that COTG has been there through all the changes.

Wow, the memories. Oh well. Hormonal teenagers will be hormonal teenagers. Plus there's only so much time in a podcast before you sound like a wanker and people want you to shut up about yourself. Hey Chad, Billy Jo Boxer was EVIL, I tell you, EVIL! Payback is now 2-0 against Swarm, for the record. He's definitely got a shot coming at Monolith, since so far he's the only guy who's beaten him for me, and it was in a falls count anywhere match just like the one he beat Swarm in at the anniversary show. He definitely could be the next titleholder. Pete, I don't even remember the details of that match, or how to spell it. Sadly, my excellent record-keeping only applies to titles and reign lengths. Joe, that's a great story. I'm sure we've all got moments where this seemingly unimportant little game has taken on a greater significance than probably its creator ever imagined it could. Glad you all enjoyed it. I wouldn't mind getting some recordings of folks at GalactiCon about their memories of the game, no matter how long they've been playing, and then posting them on my site.

Last night, I took a few moments out of a whats been an abnormally busy schedule to shut my bedroom door, click on a link, and do nothing but sit and listen.
Everything about Mark's presentation was right on. From nostalgic personal accounts (that we ALL can relate to) to the current happenings at the latest PPV (that we ALL can relate to)...everything.
It was honest and very enjoyable.
I was moved, honestly.
Mark, I respect you for many, many things. Today, it's for your passion for the game.
May it continue for 20 more, friend.
