Here is a trailer for a new UFC video game that is being developed for the PS3 and XBox 360. This is THQ's first go since aquiring the UFC license back in January. The trailer shows great graphics but it is unknown if they are pre-rendered just for the trailer or if it is meant to be the game engine. Still, looks good.

This looks promising. I rarely play video games...how does THQ tend to rank in terms of game play quality? Are their titles as good as EA Sports?

the thq wrestling titles have generally been pretty good. I know I prefered them as opposed to the Acclaim titles when both were making games. The UFC games on the last generation of consoles (XBOX PS2) got mixed reviews mostly thumbs down.
However the good news is that THQ did produce what many feel is the best MMA video game which was Pride FC. A game I still play to this day (I give it a slight edge over the k1 game which is highly underrated)

I still love Pride FC as well and K-1 is an absolute blast (Ive always said I like it more than the Fight Night series)

yeah got the k1 game about a year ago for 7 bucks and the pride game for not much more then that.
The one thing I would like to see the next mma game tackle is weight advantages. I remember the UFC games I could take down a guy like Mark Coleman with Jens Pulver or Uno pretty easily.. That shouldn' t happen. The pride game still has some of those problems but it has so many great points its hard to complain about it.

Was there no sprawl or general takedown defense capability in the earlier games? There was but it was based on twitch gameplay (you had to hit the buttons at the right time) and weight class had no bearing on the fighters abilities. On this note has anyone tried the MMA mode in the new Fire Pro Returns? I tried the Game Boy version and loved it, Curt

Well weight did matter to a degree, and lighter fighters recovered more in between rounds if I remember right.
I played the MMA mode in Virtua Pro Wrestling 2 for the N64; and while not realistic, it was a ton of fun

for all its faults I did like the UFC game more then a lot of other people. I had a 50 fight win streak with Bustamante I was submitting guys in less than a minute again not realistic but a lot of fun. I didnt pick the UFC game up at all after playing the Pride game because I thought it was that much better though
