Herring vs Nog 3

I enjoyed both fights. That anaconda choke was awesome!

Lets just hope Nog does do any brokeback trash talking

(I like that they will fight again but how about a higher tier heavyweight for Nog's tuneup bout?)

Pride fighters as of late have somewhat proven they can't handle UFC competition.
(Hi Cro Cop I’m talking about you and your little buddy Werdum).

It only reasonable logic that Dana picked someone for Nog that would guarantee that investing in big Nog will pay off. It’s a classic fight. And in all honesty if Heath does do as good against Nog as he use to, we’ll truly know how far Nog is in over his head in the ufc (it’s not likely Heath will, I’m just saying).

Personally I’m expecting Nog to flat up beat Herring down by anything he wants. But by God if Heath does pull out a win it’ll drive a stake through the heart Pride elitism (considering how crummy Heath looked in his UFC debut).

Big Nog is the number #1 guy in the heavyweight division behind Fedor. Everyone there knows thats the case in Pride. I am wondering how much money they plain on funneling down the Pride nostagia drain by trying to recreate these guys in UFC's image. Werdum vs. Arlovski was horrid. Cro Cop got rocked again. So plain B is this? Hmmm... whatever. I just hope they plain on actually doing the dream match making like they said they were. (This isn't actually what I was picturing when they had said that during the UFC/Pride conferance. Tim vs Fedor, Arlovski vs. Cro Cop, Nog vs. Arlovski(destruction of Arlovski!) something like that. What about Mark Hunt, Dennis Kang, Paulo Fihlo, and all that deep Pride talent that has been missing from the spotlight? )




I think reguardless of the outcome Nog can handle the UFC's heavyweights. Dana doesn't need to flipflop about.

Well no.. what I saw between Gabe and Cro Cop.. was Gabe completely dominating a fight than getting a high light real ending.
And yes the werdum fight wasn't all that good but he still came up short.

Duce If I even suggested to you that Randy could even hope to dream to put a fight up against Nog I think you'd stair at me like a retard.

I realize that Nog's talent is probably second best in the world. But he's not invincible. I've suggested since I've come to Cotg boards I've never, ever bought into the Pride argument of better fighters.

Josh in his first outing was able to out box Nog... and Josh's stand up is not all that world class. I think under the right circumstances Arlovski could take Nog. (Not nine times out of ten.. or anything like that) but it's alot more likely than your giving it credit for.

Nog's take downs aren't the stuff of legends. I respect his hand work but if you leave Nog with only his stand up and take away his ground game... (like Arlovski did with Werdum) you have a very winnable fight. Now after giving up a lose to Arlovski do I think Nog would go back to the drawing board and fix the problem? Most likely but I think it’s bound to happen. I’ve heard over and over again how Pride fighters if given the right chance would run rough shot over ufc stars... and the as close as that’s gotten is Anderson S. (And he’s more Cage Rage than pride).

Now I agree that's not the answer you (or hell even I want to hear) but it's a possibility.

I think they could have made Herring vs Nog a bit more appealing with Hearing picking up maybe 1 or 2 more wins and Nog getting a few before the ufc fans themselves.

As for funneling money down the Pride nostalgia drain... that’s kinda jumping the gun, who knows maybe Nog wanted this fight as a start. They could done worse?
Would you have preferred.. It was say Eiliers, Cabbage, Wes Sims? Frank Mir (well at least that would be new).
Duce I think in your mind Nog need only step into the cage and a simple display of first round subs will fallow straight to the belt. I’m not saying he can’t get the belt, I just don’t think it’s going to be as nearly as academic as your making it out to be.

Nog’s my second favorite fighter (behind Couture), but I believe he’s going to have to bust his Butt to put down the top guys in the ufc.

It just burns my rear the only fighters some fans give credit to.. Are ones who had to fight under the Pride banner.

How do you expect Mark Hunt to make 265? We have no idea if Filho is staying with Pride.. going to the ufc.. or where ever so that might not even be a choice for White. As for Kang isn't he currently recovering (his hand?) as it stands right now unless he takes the time off, he's going to ruin himself.

Last I heard he went back to Korea (with his busted hand) to kick box for an event.

You know me I am just trying to get the MMA juices flowing in the filsinger forum. I'd love to see Nog vs Couture. I wish it would have happened in Rings King of Kings tourny but alas Randy lost his semifinal matchup against the 20ish - 5 Valentijn Overeem. Who is right now 23 - 20. I think Rico beat Nog and got a bum decision in Pride. What I was saying is that Nog is... why is Nog being recreated in UFC image and not Quinton Jackson? Nog versus Arlovski's job squad wouldn't be entertaining, your right. I think Herring and Nog would have a better matchup(unless Herring fights with all the defence he has got. His offensive mistakes usually do him in).

Cause Rampage is a bum next to Nog? You said it yourself. Nog is number 2 behind Fedor... Rampage isn't even top ten right now. I recall Rampage was afraid that the ufc was going to buy him and drop him after he lost to Liddel (well he said if) and you know what.. he should be. His fight with Eastman didn't leave me wanting.

As for good old Ryo the shark, I've seen his fights with Anderson... with Phil and Dan.

I don't know what to tell you. I think Ryo's best days are behind him. Fighters improve and grow.

Maybe a decade or so ago we had fights where Page took Liddel, Pedro took Arlovski, and and so forth and so on.

Today (and Cotg posters generally where talking about these very fights for some time) alot of water has passed under the old bridge sence these bouts.

Hell I wouldn't be suprised if Wes sim took Frank Mir in a rematch considering how Mir's been lately (if that fight ever went down). Hell I wouldn't even consider it an upset.

And by the way I'll take 2 dozen Arlvoski's to having to sit threw Frank mir (I have to go home and marry my wife instead of defending the title) champ ever again. Karma caught up with him putting of his title defense.. and guess what.. it never came.

(2) What? Tank used to be somebody and if I get the jist of your retort here your saying Arlovski's horrible reign was better then Frank Mir's. That your right about. To a point. He should have been stripped of the title when he couldn't defend it. Period. Arlovski had notso world class heavyweights contending for his title. All the best were in Pride and UFC did a poor job at the time at finding or creating competition for him. The only reason I am talking about Arlovski is because he hasn't went away and is still touted in the same fashion as he was when he was champion. Are you saying you never supported Frank Mir?

You know would be great if Japanese Pride fighters like Ryo Chonan went into UFC and won.
