I am really getting into this UFC thing, but only watch what SpikeTV gives me. I don't get the PPVs. When people throw names around like "Anderson," could you be a little more specific and maybe give more to their name than that so I can maybe understand later for reference? Thanks.

A good place to start is a website called sherdog.com.
It has a "FightFinder" where you can type in a fighter's name and you can see their record: who they fought, if it was a win or loss, how the fight was determined, and at what time and in what round.
I would stay off the message boards there. It is largely comprised of people who a) think they know everything about MMA, and b) a lot of people who bash fighters for no reason/ bandwagon jumpers. etc.
Some of the mesage board posters are intelligent and know what they are saying (or at least can back up opinions with some evidence) but these guys are few and far between.

Speaking of which I don't think anyone but me who supports Leben right now over here. Anderson S. is a gifted fighter out of Chute box achedemy, he's from pride. He's beaten Alex Stiebeling (probrably mis spelled that), as well as Carlson Newton and many more.
I think this will be either fighters biggest win (just because of the attention put on it). And a win will have a huge impact in alot of fans eyes.
Make no mistake about it this is big ufc/pride fight (even thought Anderson is joining the ufc... least I think). On one hand we have a fighter from one of Prides best camps. And on the other we have leben, student of Randy Couture, Matt H. who is one of the best coming of Dana's reality tv show. IF he can win... he'll give alot of credit to Dana's pet project.
If he loses alot of fans (sherdog ones) will go "See I told you so." That day.. if Leben wins... it'll kill a small part of their souls and many of them will go back in denile. And then I'll giggle. (that and I don't like Chute box LOL).
Course it'll be a dark day for me if Leben gets beat up and brakes down crying like a little girl again. But hay, that's part of the fun.
Oh Shields.. Pride is on FSN for free if you have it. check your listings (preview channel).

Anderson Silva probally... I hope you get into the rest of the MMA world aswell. UFC is connected to it wholely despite any thing that Dana has spoon fed any of ya. Recently you can see this as Dana has let Pride run wild on his show. I think we might see more Pride guys next UFC PPV in the stands...
The message boards in sherdog are filled with alot of good information. I wouldn't post anything unless you really put some time into a post. Alot of those guys where on the messageboards on AOL in the middle to late 90s. I wish I had saved the threads we had back then. I barely posted the chunk of what those guys where spewing. Man there was this guy named "C00L ALAN" that loved Don Frye and assured everyone he was invinsible and his loss against Coleman was a fluke.
Something I'd recomend for everyone that hasn't done it go perusin any dvd/vhs store you've got in your area. Search the cheap bins for KOTC or something of that nature. Watch one of those DVDs. You'll probally gag of boredom. Then watch the TV for UFC or rent some Prido desu( Pride FC). This will give you an idea of how far MMA has come and also were it can go back too. Plus believe it or not there are some good fights in that cheap bin.

I've seen some Rumble at the rock tapes that weren't all that bad at sun coast. They had names like mayham miller, Rich Franklin, So forth and so on. You can find some great deals on king of the cage tapes... but there is a reason for that.
If your a hard core mma junkie peak. If your pickie don't.

The first couple of Super Brawl's on VHS might really surprize you. Frank Shamrock vs. John Lober 1 and the always entertaining JR Palmer
