Recently Pride (well at least it's distributer at the local malls around here) released 3 pride tapes at the same time and I picked them all up and was hoping to give some feed back and thoughts.
Bushido 3 and Pride's Middle weight Grand prix 2005.
The main reason I wanted to discuss both of these cards is I felt from the sources I've talked to about both these cards I got a bad evaluation and wanted to shot my two cents on the matter.
Simply put, Bushido 3 isn't the **** storm I was lead to beleive it was going to be... and Further more the middle weight Opening Round (2005) wasn't the celebration of mma I thought it would be either.
Everytime I heard the middle weight grand prix for Pride (2005) mentioned at Sherdog.. it was talk about the be all end all tournament.
And I must admit... it has the names.
But alot of those matches seemed to stall. Now by no means did they suck, and the dvd was more or less worth 25 so I really don't feel cheated or anything. I was just confused while it was so hyped? Is it the over all out look on the tournament? I assume it improves later in the tournament perhaps?
Examples of lack luster performance.
Arona and Dean Lister's fight.
It was slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. And I like Arona and I thought it was sloooooooooooooooooooooow.
alot of fighters in this tournament (Bas, and his side kick on the anounce team pretty much said the same thing) seemed... well like they never really got going that day.
I relize the there must have been more preasure to perform at that level, at that huge of an oppertunity than I'll ever grasp... but I've seen better from Pride? (notice I didn't take the low road and compare it to the UFC).
I don't want to descourage anyone from thinking it should be avioded or anything, I just was kinda dumb founded (with the acception of 3 out of 8 fights) this show got such a kick ass revue. (Those stand out fights being, Yuki Kondo vs Igor, Rampage vs Shogun, and Yoshida vs Wanderlei.)
