The UFC website has Keith Jardine vs. Mike Whitehead as a 205 fight. That is pretty interesting in having the two men who were considered the favorites of TUF 2 to win the heavyweight division fighting each other.
Jeff Monson vs. Branden Lee Hinkle Paul Buentello vs. Gilbert Aldana
No Swick vs. Potvin

Randy Couture vs. Chuck Liddell
End of a legacy.
Frank Mir vs. Marcio 'Pe de Pano' Cruz
Mir gassed and then got pounded into a bloody mess. Should have been stopped much earlier.
Renato 'Babalu' Sobral vs. Mike Van Arsdale
Looks like Sobral/Chuck rematch down the road
Branden Lee Hinkle vs Tim Monsoon
Loved the choke from North/South. If Monson develops his stand up he could be a real player...if!
Brandon Vera vs. Justin Eilers
I see very little resale value in Ellers.
Nick Diaz vs. Joe Riggs
Great fight. Riggs cuts an insane amount of weight. Even when he loses Diaz puts on an entertaining effort. I'd like to see a rematch.

Just because I haven't done a qoute in a while, Frank Mir actaully went down in a very respectable way and showed alot of heart. I hate to admit it.. but I want to see him again now. I don't know where I put Tim Monsoon in the big scheme of things. I don't see him taking Arlovski. I don't really see his stand up getting all that better so I think this guys peeked. Nothing wrong with that. I think Sobral is digging himself into a dead end. If Randy couldn't own Chuck on the ground, no one can (at least in the ufc). I was kinda disturbed oh how easily Renato owned Mike Van.... it was like watching Trigg crash and burn against GSP. Brandon Lee crashed and burned... I wasn't suprised.. the legacy of Hammer house continues. I Think Joe D. needs to move up to middle weight.. what he's doing can't be healthy for him. Eilers re sell value is in watching him get knocked out. Eilers is a super can if you will. when he gets knocked out.. it's funny. There with in is his value. Did you see when paul knocked him out? It was like watching Ric flair fall over. And Mike White head (isn't that a kind of pimple?) lost. Oh well. Whats your take Duce? Randy Couture vs. Chuck Liddell End of a legacy. Mike 'Teacher's Pet/Blowhard' Whitehead was quite a character. Seeing his on air deconstruction was among the most entertaining things I saw all of last year from any genre. When it really came down to it...he was all show and no go. "When Coach puts us on these treadmills..." Highlights from TUF 2 Episode 9 "Listen up! When it comes to working on these Aerodynes, it's not so much for cardio. It's more mental toughness. You know, I outweigh most of you guys and I have more body fat on me than they rest of you guys and I'm outrunning you on that treadmill because of my mental toughness. It's got nothing to do with me being in better shape!"-Mike Whitehead bragging to the rest of Team Hughes about his 'mental toughness' just before mentally breaking down in his TUF 2 elimination fight "Mike Whitehead, I think, is the strongest heavyweight here. He's got great hands. He's the best wrestler here probably, and he's got great submissions, too. When I put him on the treadmill, he can outrun everybody on my team, welterweights included. Mike is technically, physically and mentally the strongest fighter here."-Matt Hughes discussing his #1 pick in the draft "You might be the toughest guy in the practice room but you're not showing me anything right now! You go out and you let your hands go and you impose your will on him! I don't know what your doing. You're not setting up your shots, you're not throwing any punches… he's not worried about your hands! GET GOING OUT THERE!!! I'M SERIOUS!!!"-Coach Matt Hughes going off on Whitehead as he throws a water bottle against the wall in frustration at the end of round 2 of the Whitehead/Evans elimination fight "Very helpless is the feeling when you're cornering somebody because you can tell them what to do but you sure can't do it for them. I mean, Mike's a good friend of mine. We go back years, but to see him go out there and melt away to nothing… was just very frustrating. When Mike couldn't get him to the ground and keep him down, he lost all confidence and the will to fight out there. I'm not happy… I can't accept that, just giving up and not even trying. I'd rather have somebody go out there and try as hard as they can and get knocked out than to lose that way. Go out trying. Go out swinging… but don't just give up like that. I can't explain that, I don't understand that, it's not what I've come from and it's not what I'm used to." ;D -Matt Hughes after the humiliating Whitehead loss

Oh I remember.. beleive me... that match was awesome not only because Mike White head fell apart.. but seeing Rashad of all people was the one who did it. That was the best fight on the show... well that and when Luke Como knocked out that kid in his second fight.... Heh I'm still dying to see Como fight again.

I wasn't implying Matt Hughes was incompotent. I'd just second guess myself if he told me he saw talent in me. It seems great fighters have a hard time picking prospecitive students (Ken.. for what he's worth), Randy (I'd say Leben was an okay pic), Jason von Flue for Chuck (not bad, but not great), I guess the best martial art teacher with an eye for talent is Militech. I mean I could easliy say Matt surpasses his teacher in every aspect in the ring.

I wan't implying that any had said Hughes was incompetent. Judging from myself and who I am, and seeing Hughes work over those guys, I would need a taskmaster who demanded nothing but perfection to motivate me and keep me going.

From all accounts Matt Hughes was an 'in your face...on your azz...no excuses' type coach. If you're going to be in something as physically and mentally demanding as MMA there aren't too many people that are better to model your career after than Matt Hughes. His 38-4 record is astounding. One of the best pound for pound fighters in history.
Like Watching Paint Dry (who's only complaint about Hughes is that his hardcore approach may have led to over-training)
"Now I understand why you treat people the way you do!"
-Rashad after Matt Hughes coached him to the victory over Keith Jardine
"I was never here to make friends. I was here to turn people...if they 'really' want to do this...into better fighters!"
-Matt Hughes

Ah but that's just it, not all people respond well to someone like that. If you can respond to someone constantly pushing you his way you'll do well and good but he doesn't seem to adept beyond that.
You know who was a good coach? Chuck. I remember him saying "Unlike Randy.. I'm going to train you to your strengths." Now Chuck didn't hold anyones hand.. but he didn't have to be ass to anyone either it seemed. Some people need a good swift kick in the ass to get them going, but if that's your only way of inspiration.. well people eventaulyl learn to burn out to that kind of crap (the Mike ditcha school of coaching).
Matt seems stuborn in this respect. His w.w. did great while all his heavy W. crashed and burned. Something just seemed odd about that. I chalk it up to a lack of adapdation that he tryed pushing heavy weights like W.Weights.
