(previously I posted at Sherdog, I just wanted to share my thoughts here as well).
I ended up getting Bushido 2005 just this Friday. I actually picked it up by mistake trying to get the Middle Weight Grand Prix. But instead of canceling the order I figure ah what the hell I love fights why not.
It kicked ass. Takanori Gomi is pure talent and class. He actually gave his match medal to Tatsuya Kawajiri after beating Tatsuya. I don't just respect him, Hell I'm a fan now. Any one who consider him over rated is severely close minded.
Now for hard core Pride fans.. Is Gomi always this good? He had to world class bouts his second with Luis Azeredo and that was arguable even better than the first (I wanted a knock out to end that match, Knock outs don't leave questions in close matches).
Additonaly I finally got to see Phil's match in which he lost. Personally? I think Phil lost. He didnt' get screwed, in fact I think Phil got a little bit better, but still came up short. It's as simple as that. Maybe with 3 rounds it might have gone different but that's a question for another day.
Now as much as I hate to admit this, Yves Edwards lost his respective match as well. Great fight, so I didn't feel cheated in the least.
Now here's the bad side, it felt like at times Japanese fighters got a little extra helping hand.
To this I say So what? It happens in the UFC for American fighters but I've never seen enough to outright leave me enraged. Dan Henderson was dealt what felt like an unfair penalty in his second fight be he fought through it and preserved. True champions find ways of over coming the odds. I remember thinking half way though the card, hay this isn't half bad, by the end I'm sure the best mma has to offer lays ahead of us. Not behind.
