Angle Question For Tom

I'm sure this was asked before hundreds of times, but I've never seen a definitive answer on it. Forgive me for asking one more time.

Back in the early days of the GWF, you began hinting at an un-easy alliance between Thantos and Krakan. But, it was an angle that was never really brought out into the open and played on. Were you intending on working this alliance between Thantos and Krakan more than what was there, or did you leave it a "gray area" on purpose?

I remember you teaming them up for a time (I think it was in WarGames), but again nothing of their "un-easy alliance" was drawn on. It's just something that has nagged me for a number of years now, so I thought I'd finally ask about it. A full-blown Thantos vs Krakan rivalry would have been a top-notch feud!

Krakan always wanted to be the top dog, but he was conflicted by a mix of emotions. On the one hand he wanted to compete with Thantos, on the other he respected Thantos and was afraid of him.

In my own fed I had a very early Thantos vs. Krakan feud. The problem was it was tough for SOD to compete. Thantos had guys like the Executioner on his side while Krakan only had Khan and Mutant. Still, I enjoyed the feud.

The ironic thing is (if memory serves me right), Krakan was supposed TO BE Thantos! "He looks like a great villain" a wise man once said, "but he's no Thantos."

You're right. Chuck Carter brought me a sketch for Krakan (a full body shot) and said, "Here's Thantos." I looked at it and said, "No...that's not going to be Thantos. It's not the right look. That's a cool drawing though. It fits Krakan better." It wasn't until later that Chuck came through with that classic Thantos card art.

You can tell which characters were created first by looking at the first-ever PWI ad which had Star Warrior, Krakan, Renegade (as yet unnamed and with no storyline), Massacre, and Massif. The ad was due in advance and we gave it all we had so far.

Funny I had an early Thantos-Krakan feud in 2087 too as they fought for villan supremacy. I played it out slightly different in that the Excecutioner & Com. Terror didnt get involved. For me it was Thantos & Royal Court (I never referred to them as the Evil Ones) with a one man advantage against SOD (I imagine Thantos as being very scheming and good at stacking the odds in his favour). It was dead even until Galacticon 1 (my wrestlemania) when in the main event Thantos beat Krakan in a Titan Death match. Krakan to this day accepts Thantos as the villan leader and teamed with him in 2091 (where I am now) but it's still an uneasy alliance and the feud could always re-ignite at any time.

Of course the Thantos-Star Warrior feud was simmering away and they had some confrontations but it didn't really get into full swing until late 2087 after this power struggle.
