Gentlemen, lend me your ears, I want to present an idea I have had floating around my head for a while now ....
Has there ever been a GWF character that you just couldn't get into? Have you ever found yourself not embracing a character because you didn't care for his artwork, or his background, or his moveset? Have you ever joined a grass roots campaign to eliminate Terak the Beast-Rider? Complained about Sectarian? Whined about Euritar not having a personality? If so, then you might be interested in what I have to say.
I propose that we start a character redesign thread here on the boards, where we pick a different COTG character (maybe one a month) and redesign that character. You can alter little things about them, or change the whole package. I have seen these types of threads work VERY WELL on other boards, and I think with the creativity level of many of you guys on this board, that it would work here as well.
If we can get a lot of people involved in this, especially you fan artists out there, then I think this could be a lot of fun. At the end of each month, we could vote on everyones ideas to see who had the best redesign of that character. Then, at the end of the year, I would even be willing to release a cardstock set of all the redesigned characters.
It's just an idea I've had, and I would love to hear some other opinions on it. If enough people are up for it, I'd like to start really soon.

ps- In no way, shape or form is this meant to criticize any of Tom's characters. I believe they all served a purpose in the COTG universe ... it's just a chance for some of us creative types to re-invision guys we couldn't get into ... or wished were developed differently.

Couldn't have asked for a better person to throw their weight behind the idea. That would be like getting an expansion NFL team, and the Indianapolis Colts leave Peyton Manning unprotected in the expansion draft. Ehhhhhhh on second thought, I guess The Chicago Bears leaving Rex Grossman unprotected would be a better analogy, but you get my point.  |

This sounds like a great idea!!! I would like to think about it some more of course but the first thing that pops into my mind (and I am sure Beck would agree with me here) is a renewed Death Knight. Death Knight II rules but to have him the original with a main event or even upper midcard caliber moveset would be cool. the art rules for him already so I think if new art was done for him we should be incredibly pickie with it. BigBee popped in my mind as a someone maybe able to handle such a task though I am sure there are others. If and when I get ideas for other characters I will share. Great idea and thread Zilla!

I love the idea. Maybe we should email or PM each other and figure out where to start and or go with it. I have always wanted to redisign a bunch of COTG art and stats so I am in if wanted and needed. I see me doing at least two or more cards if possible.

The way I pictured it, and have seen it done, is to vote on a character that we would attempt to redesign each month. Then, everyone would focus their efforts on redesigning that character and we would vote for the best all around redesign at the end of the month. Maybe whoever wins each contest can chose the next months character? Or, we could go by Game Edition. For example, lets say 2087. Anyone interested can choose any character from that edition and redesign them how they see fit. They would then present the "new" character to the group. Ideas? Comments? Suggestions? It's tough to pick someone out from just the 2087 set to start, they all seem to fit perfectly within the framework of that edition. Because of that, they are hard to "reimagine". IMO, they were imagined perfectly the first time around
We could do two from 2087, Thantos and Star Warrior, and reverse their rolls. With Warrior being the heel and Thantos being the face. You know, something of that nature and totally redesign their cards around that. Or we could do the same thing with Nexus/Krakan, or Comrade Terror/Commander Sam.
I know it seems like a bad idea to chose an established guy like that, but I feel if we are going to do this we should start with someone big to get the ball rolling. It might help with the creative juices.
Unfortunately, I don't have any (real good) ideas at the moment. If any come to me, I'll be sure to let someone know.
