I quit posting, or coming to the boards after all the BS that went down around me, or near me.
Now I only post selectively, and just shake my head at the drama that keeps happening. It's not worth the bother to get involved anymore.

I agree with Hawk. The solution is pretty obvious. Until that day comes, I guess good people will keep getting run off.

I know Steve. He used to live about 20 minutes from me, managed an EB I went to before he got into teaching, and I even went to his place for a couple of PPV parties. I like him and it's a shame he got dragged into an argument like that so easily. But it can happen, especially if the right people push the right buttons. There are a few guys here who should've been banned for good for their nonsense in the past, one of whom I see responded here. Swarm/ Rob has his moments, but I think he's one of those guys who suffers from the fact that the typed word doesn't always come off the same as the spoken word and there's a lot of interpretation from the reader that gets turned into hostility.

I say each to his own. I had no problem with Ringsyde....but he was touchy on certain topics. All the same its a shame he has decided to go. I never thought it would lead to something like this. Life goes on.

I just want to add this, and then I'm done with this topic for good or bad.
In 1998, I got the initial set of COTG for my birthday. I couldn't get into it. Maybe it was because I was too young (12), maybe it was because I lacked the creatitivity I have now, or perhaps it was because I didn't know anyone else who played it.
In 2000/2001, I found the old guestbook. I was, shall we say...intrigued. I watched for awhile, and then got the urge to play some more. I started playing, and sharing what was happening in my fed and got into it. I got into it BECAUSE of that guestbook, and this message board. Without it, I would have never gotten into the game like I did.
I still enjoy the discussions I have with people like Floyd, Butters, and others about my feds, or characters. So when things got so bad that I had to leave this board for several weeks, it hurt my enjoyment of the game. That's why we're all here right? For the game. I'm glad some people can enjoy the game without the board, but for myself and others, this board is a VITAL part of the game to us.
So in essence. This board gaveth my interest in this game, and the drama on this board taketh the interest away.

The board has only enhanced my love for this game. The fed forum has challenged me to be more creative with my fed. But, no offense to anyone, I played this game since I was about 14 and nothing said on here could ever make me not like this game. The thing about the board is the key word is" "discussion." It seems many people become shocked and hurt when people disagree with them on this board. It's gonna happen. Many people don't like my views on things. You can't let that effect you so much. I like getting into debates with people on issues. It's fun, even when they're heated because it shows passion by both. If we all agreed, it would be boring! And, nobody has gotten "run off this board." You join because you wish, and you post as you choose. If you choose to delete your account, that's your decision.

I've played this game since 1989 and nothing will drive me off. I think that's a bit immature. Just because you disagree with a few people, I'm sure there are 20 more that enjoy your posts and have decent conversations with.

Well I had to take various breaks from the game due to finanical issues(though I've been running straight thru since 2101) but no one could ever say a word to me to get me to hate the game or board.

Of course people will disagree, and that's fine. That's not the issue. The issue is the way certain people on this board choose to express their disagreement. I've had disagreements with Hawk and a few others on the board who I enjoy talking to. They always express their disagreements in a respectful way, and that makes coming to the board enjoyable.
It's the (very small) group who resort to personal insults on consistent basis who cause the problem. How many times will they be temporarily banned and how many people will be driven away before proper (and permanent) action will be taken?
I feel badly for Tom because not only do these people make him look bad, but if their actions are causing even one promoter to quit the game, or even play it less, then they are taking money directly out of his pocket. Not something "good friends" usually do to each other.

This all sounds like the kid who doesn't like how the game is going and takes his ball and goes home.
I believe that if what someone says on a computer message board affects your enjoyment of something, then you probably were not really keen on it in the first place. If you are so swayed by public expressions of opinion like that, then I feel sad for you.

Tom and I have discussed the passions of game players and agree that people have such strong opinions (pro and con) because they love the game and they want it to be the best it can be. People just have different views of what constitutes "best." But at least they care enough to talk about it, not just let it sit and have no imagination about it. Or worse, stop playing because it's boring.
So I generally try to live and let live. Doesn't do much good to try to persuade somebody. As long as you listen to them, hopefully they'll listen to you and agree to disagree relatively peacefully.

Ok, since we're talking about Swarm here, and I wont beat around the bush since it's obvious we're all talking about Swarm and, to a lesser degree, payback and joe. I like Swarm. I think he's a pretty cool guy, I like reading his federation, and I generally agree with his opinions on COTG. That said, Swarm can be a jerk sometimes. I don't think that's a huge revelation to anyone, not even Swarm himself. He knows it, and he plays it up sometimes. That said, most of the time he just comes off as a passionate fan. Sometimes that comes off as arrogant or belittling, but i think that just like in reality, you have to take certain people with a grain of salt. If Swarm says "you're playing the WRONG way!", but you have fun playing that way....who cares? Why does it matter what Swarm says? Because he's friends with Tom? Who gives a crap? It's your game, you paid for it....play it the way you want to and IGNORE it if someone gives you a hard time. If you don't like Swarm, or Payback, or Joe, or anybody else, just ignore them. Don't let anybody ruin your enjoyment of the game, or the time you spend here on these boards. Just look at them as passionate fans, and accept that arguing with them is a waste of everyone's time, especially your own. .......... *puts on a plethador mask*

If you are so swayed by public expressions of opinion like that, then I feel sad for you. Great post Turkish! I will say this for about the 1 millionth time. Many people on this board disagree with each other. But it seems whenever myself, Joe , or Swarm happen to agree on something, it's seen as "ganging up" on someone. Look, tons of people outwardly express their disdain for Swarm, or myself. Do we cry and go to a Board Moderator and ask that they get a "timeout?" No. We're able to handle the situation ourselves. If what I type at my computer in Detroit can effect you to the point where you stop playing this game, your problem is bigger than what I write. I don't begrudge anybody on this board. I love this game and play it however you want to. But, when you post things on the board, you leave yourself open for criticism. If you can't handle that, you're not gonna be very happy too often. And just remember that if you disagree with me........you're ganging up on me! ;D

So it seems like we are all just assuming that the reason Ringsyde deleted his account is because of his run-in with Swarm? Did he ever actually say that in any of his posts? Did he PM anyone about this? I admit it seems ironic that he would suddenly disappear at this point, but maybe we're all jumping to conclusions. Hopefully he is just focusing on his new job, or he bought some kick ass new video games.
If that is the reason he left however, then it really is a sad day. Everyone seems to be arguing against Swarm, Payback and Joe because they are very vocal about their feds and "tell others they are running their feds wrong." I'm sure some people don't like being mocked in Swarm's fed (which I love by the way, hopefully someday I can say something stupid enough to get a mention).
Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the altercation between Swarm and Rings had anything to do with their feds or COTG in general. Ringsyde made some comments about racial predudice, which I know is something he feels very strongly about. That's fine, he can say what he wants on here as there is no rule against discussing religion, politics, etc that I am aware of. But if Ringsyde or anyone else for that matter brings up a topic like that he shouldn't be surprised if it triggers debates or disagreements ..... especially when there are very strong personalities like Swarm on this board. I think the same thing happened in a thread that was started by GWFanTrav a while back. It happens.
Its crazy how innocently the whole thing started too.
We all come here because we have a common bond, and that is a passion for the greatest game any of us have ever played. It seems like when we focus on that everything goes pretty smoothly. But when we get beyond our shared interests and talk about sports, WWE vs. TNA, race, politics, etc. people get their panties in a bunch. And if you can't deal with a little debate , and realize that some people here debate a little more than others, then maybe you shouldn't be posting here, at least not outside of the boards dedicated to the game.
