Holy cow. Didn't expect this to go off on a white/black thing. I was just pointing out that there is no law of the land that says English is the official language of this country. Until such time as it is instituted (which it very well may be, who knows), this business does NOT have the right to discriminate on this basis because they are violating these people's civil rights. Wearing a coat and tie isn't even close to being the same thing. If someone opened a business that would serve only blacks, or only Hispanics, or only green men from Mars, they'd be violating white people's civil rights and would be in the same trouble. That's the law. I'm not a card-carrying member of the ACLU and quite frankly find a lot of what they do incredibly dumb. Just like I think Geno's owners are incredibly dumb for taking a stand on an issue that has the potential to seriously affect their business in a negative way. Yeah, some English-only folks will no doubt flock to this place in support of his stand. But you know what? A court won't care about that when they assess a civil penalty. The guy's dumb for doing it. I'm not talking about his politics. I'm talking about his business sense. Dumb. Lobby your legislators to get the laws changed if you care that much. If I'm this guy's kids, who may inherit the profits and/or business someday, I'm screaming at Pops to knock it off already. Now let's play nice, m'kay?  |

Regarding my last post (and LAST sounds VERY appropriate), I mean to have your temper, your violent history and your very quaint manner of insulting and threatening people through posts and pm's examined so that if and when I arrive in Jamestown, I'm not dragged into a fist fight with the likes of you. One of us does have a spotless record, no criminal, drug or other history and a pretty bright future. I intend to keep it that way through whatever menas are necessary.

First of all, Geno's steaks suck. If you are in Philly, go accross the street to Pat's, which have the best cheesesteaks on the planet. Yes Pats is 10x better then Genos though I listened to the owner of Genos on a local radio show the other night, They will serve u if u dont speak English but they prefer you would so you can get the kinda cheesesteak you want. ANd while there is no current law on the books about English being an official language. The Immigration Bill thats on the Congressional Floor right now as a provision for English as the official language of the U.S.

Ok, he was not directing that comment at you. Please read that last sentence slowly.
He was quoting what he said to takfaga. He was saying that if they were both at GCon together, he should avoid DR because obviously, they don't get along. He never said he'd beat him up or anything. Jeesh, don't read too much into everything DR says.

Give peace a chance.
Politics is one thing. Views on race relations is another. This is going way too far in many, many ways, and I apologize for fomenting any of it. I thought we'd talk about the wisdom of potentially flushing your business down the toilet with fighting a frivolous lawsuit. It became a monster in no time.
I'm thinking this thread needs to be locked for the good of all. But I leave that to the moderators. I know I've said what I wanted to say, which I hope no one took as a personal attack. I like discussing politics because it gets people to be passionate about something, even if they don't agree with me. And I can still be friends with them as long as it stays on that level. I don't happen to agree with my good buddy DR on this one. But I'll still shake his hand at the Con.
ANYONE who starts or participates in a fight at the Sheldon House will be doing a disservice to this game and to Tom Filsinger himself that I can't even imagine has come to this. Why are we even discussing this? It's insane.
Can we just back off now? Nobody's changing anybody else's mind here. On anything, apparently. Fair enough. That's life. Let's live ours and let other people live theirs.
