the announcements...If you don't know, when someone has a baby, most hospitals now will post the kids pic on there and relatives, family, friends can post a small comment about the baby. This is one of the all time funniest! My wife and her best friend are both pregnant and are always looking thru them. And being English teachers, you can see why they got a kick of out this! the bad thing?! Sharin diapers cuz my WIC ran out!?!? www.growingfamily.com/webnursery/babypage_view.asp?URLID=6P9A7X4V0ZJust something to put out there to lighten up from the Bizzarro thread!!! Keep the dice rolling!!!

Well this should certainly stop any of those Southern, Conservative stereotypes that have been floating about....
Or make them 100% worse. I see the intent here, but I'm thinking it might not be taken as the light hearted romp you're seeing it as.

I see the intent here, but I'm thinking it might not be taken as the light hearted romp you're seeing it as. LOL...well, since we think that Southern, Conservative, racist stuff, well, that's pretty regional now...we prefer Nazi now. Gives us more of a "worldly" feel! Kinda like when Bill Watts changed the name of Mid-South to Universal Wrestling Federation Offspring..lol...my wife read your response (and granted, she stays the heck away from all of my COTG follies), but she got the biggest kick out of it. She said, you should let him know who let us know about the picture. Her absolute biggest commo, lefties, lib friends in the city of Louisville (they teach with her). THEY thought it was the funniest (and saddest) thing they've saw...and I about pooped my pants when I heard they were making fun of it!!! But with all of them English teachers, they really found it a sad state of affairs of just the grammer. Also, just making fun of being on "WIC" and saying "black person" and "great job doing the bad thing..". While it's funny, but it's really sad to see that poor kid has to be subjected to that. We saved our comments from when our little guy was born...can you imagine when this poor kid is older and (if they save it), has to see that? It's actually not funny, but really sad to see that. It's just seems like a joke to them.... P.S. The Aiden Parker comment, that's from my wife...she felt sorry for the kid and thought it'd be nice to have one normal comment....

Before I post my thoughts about this, I want everyone to know that I'm not taking a personal shot at anyone, but I'm just expressing my feelings, as many others do.
After reading the posts under the picture, I found no humor anywhere. It is clear, through the many references to "class" and "school," that the posters, as well as the child's mother, are high school students, most likely freshman or sophomores.
Teenage pregnancy is not a source of humor, but an epidemic. Unfortunately, it is framed and viewed, much like welfare, as a Black problem. This is a horrible misconception, as teenage pregnancy is something that affects the nation as a whole. Many people have a disproportionate view of teen pregnancy for several reasons, one of the most crucial being the fact that many Black teens are unable to afford the abortions that their white counterparts get.
I realize that life experiences certainly affect my thinking on such matters, but this really should not be something anyone draws laughs from. The entire topic is upsetting, but the fact that those in the educational community, regardless of the level, find it to be a laughing matter is particularly saddening.
Regardless of how "commo, lefty, and lib" a person may be, until he or she wakes up and spends a day as a Black person, that person cannot fully understand what it is like to face the stereotypes and negative images that many others use as "harmless" jokes.
This post is not an attack on anything anyone else has said. Truthfully, I just hope it will persuade people to think about the topic from a different point of view.

Sighh....look Joe, you can say my name. I'm a big boy, I don't need to hide behind judges, lawyers or activist groups. I let the teachers know you're saddened about their comments and they're glad you're Prince Charming. They hope you've never ever ever laughed at anyone's expense...always keep that straight face no matter what. You do don't ya? I'd hope so. You want to go for that famous battle hymn, "step in their shoes...", we can go there. And this is from the wife as well, and she never opens her mouth. Oh yes, I was the victim of affirmative action, but I didn't call all of the conservative activist groups... But anyways, since I've been in those shoes for a day, if you call it that, please Joe, Mark, off, Ring...please come protest on my behalf. PLEASEEEEEEEEEE...."I've experienced discrimination and think it's unfair". So when do I expect you guys here? I'll pay for your hotel if you protest on my behalf for a whole day on Friday (but you may have to share the hotel..i'm not that rich (unlike most evil white conservatives ) But since all of you said your dittos, I just want to make sure you do not watch any shows that may make fun of any ethnic stereotypes, OK. No South Park, Family Guy, American Dad, Mind of Mencina, Chappell Show, Minoriteam...anything like that. OK. They have a lot of "stereotypes and negative images that many others use as "harmless" jokes". Just want to make sure all of you guys are consistent. You know those shows are breaking down the barrier of all racial harmony, so don't contribute to it. (Granted, you guys may not watch them...) And for all the posters and dittos (except Ring), since you feel strongly about never being in their shoes...the next time you go for a job interview, please make sure you tell the person doing the hiring, "Look, I'd like this job, but make sure if there is a black person also up for the job...to make sure, even if they may be not as qualified as myself...give 'em a stronger look than me." Come on guys, if you feel strongly about stepping in their shoes for something like that...please do it during your next job interview. Get yourself passed over due to affirmative action and step in those shoes and see how it feels.... So really, take a chill pill...the world is still going around. Just don't laugh at anything... I'm done on this thread. PM me if you wanna make any more comments... And yes, if there was a white baby and the comments was, "Ur babee wuz soo purty..yuck yuck..." we'd laugh as hard. Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez. You gotta get out of college with all of those racial sensitivity classes and women studies man..

Glad you like my new avitar.
If you wanna know why I have it up, to continue in Bizzaro land...
Our friends from the ACLU are now protesting a recent Kentucky ruling that states no one can protest for so many hours before and after a funeral. Sounds reasonable? Not to your friends at the ACLU...they're protesting that decision.
So if that's the side you chose to be on...I thank God I'm on the opposite side of you. ;D

Now, it should be common decency that you respect the dead and not protest at a funeral (for whatever reason), but that's not the job of the government to decide.

Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez. You gotta get out of college with all of those racial sensitivity classes and women studies man.. I'm glad the teachers think I'm Prince Charming, after all, most females do. But then again, I'm a Kappa, so that's what we're known for. Now, for the serious matters. I guess what you, and unfortunately, many people, fail to realize is the difference between stereotypes against Blacks and whites. Stereotypes of the Black race were bestowed on them by whites. This is a fact, just like the names of the nations of Africa were chosen by European leaders when the land was divided. That is why the stereotypes are so damaging and hurtful. Let's face it, the portrayal of a good ol' boy in a pick-up truck does not carry the same pain and power as the various negative images and stereotypes of Blacks that have permeated society for centuries. Throughout history, Blacks have been stereotyped and inappropriately labeled as whatever whites wanted to depict them as during a given time. When white southerners were trying to justify slavery, the Black man was depicted as a mindless oaf who could not possibly function on his own. According to the stereotype, he needed the white master to help him get along on a day-to-day basis, because he was not mentally equipped to survive on his own. After the abolishment of slavery, whites, again prominent in but not exclusive to the south, began to portray the Black as vicious, evil savage who only desired to murder white men and rape white women. Where the goal was once to keep Black as free laborers, it now was to garner support for the anti-Black movements throughout the south and other parts of the U.S. Various stereotypes of Blacks still exist today, and sadly, a good portion of the people in this country still believe in them. That is why the perpetuation of the stereotypes is such a dangerous thing. In addition to the fault that I found with the laughing at high schoolers in the baby link, the fact that the laughter had such a racial slant was equally disturbing. One can say, "If I had seen this, this and that... I would have made fun of it, too," but that wasn't what happened. You found a picture of a black child, with a mother who is also a child, and a list of quotes from other Black children and poked fun at it. For the record, while some of the historical specifics may have been learned through reading, my views on race and racial discrimination are very much the product of what I have seen in real life. I am sorry that you, or your wife, (Couldn't tell who you were referring to) has been "discriminated" against, but there would not be a need for such laws if the first 400 years of this nation had not seen the blatant oppression of Blacks. You can't make society level after four centuries of inequality by just saying, "OK, you guys are free now," or "OK, you can go to school with the white kids now." If it makes you feel any better, though, Trav, most affirmative action laws actually were passed and implemented while Nixon was in office. Who says Republicans don't have a heart? Finally, to answer your question about television shows, of your list, I watch Family Guy and Chappelle (when it was on). Family Guy can be offensive in parts, but in all fairness, it's a cartoon with a talking, drinking dog and a homicidal baby and the shows does scatter shot humor where it just sort of clowns everything. I don't see as to where the show is breaking down any racial barriers, though. Chappelle, coincidentally enough, has actually said that it began to bother him when whites began to catch on to his humor. He has all but said that he did not anticipate, or want, whites to latch onto his skits and jokes about Blacks. My statements are not meant as an attack on you or your beliefs, but when I read things like this, I feel I should respond because I feel strongly about the subject matter. I would fully expect you to respond in kind if I opened up with an attack on Sean Hannity.

Cute Trav. The fact that you and your friends were laughing at someone's baby registry is the part that bothers me the most. Yes it's online, yes it's out there for whomever wants to see it, but it is something that you really have no business even looking at. Do you know this child? Do you know these people? Aren't there better uses for your time? There are negative aspects to affirmative action, and as a white male I can somewhat sympathize with you on this point. I can sit here and support the ideas behind it, but if it affected me directly as it has you, I might not be so supportive. But again, that's probably me seeing shades of gray and you living in black and white world. What I can't support is the tone in which you are addressing your fellow posters here. There is no call to be a smartass about this Trav. If you want open, honest debate and discussion, don't "talk down" to anyone who isn't 100% on your side. That's the quickest way to kill any chance you have of making your point seem credible. I live in a magical, wonderous world where God, the Christian God that I believe in (belive it or not) gave me a terrific little thing called common sense. And with that wonderous little thing, I am able to discern between reality and fantasy! Imagine! I can watch a television show and laugh myself sick over jokes that deal with racism, sexism, murder, homosexuality and dozens of other hot button topics. And when it's over I have the power to walk away, my real life opinions completely unshaken. It's a wonderous world we live in. (I should mention that I fully recognize what a smartass I'm being now. I figure Trav lives by the golden rule, so I'll give him what he seemingly expects from us.) Trav, I, like you, would not want a black person (or any ethnicity) to be given a stronger look than me. Why? I, like most humans, am selfish. I would want the job for myself. The sad truth is that being passed over for a job once cannot POSSIBLY live up to the racism that many blacks have to endure on a daily basis. I think your comparison is way off base. And again, the superior tone doesn't help anything. Nice subtle gay jab there at the end. I think we all really appreciated that. Hey, maybe you can regale us with another Brokeback Mountain parody! Those are always a riot! Silly gays! Trav you say you're finished with this, and to be honest so am I. You thank God that you're on the opposite side of things from me, and I pretty much feel the same. Now if you'll excuse me, this semi-liberal is going to go eat an aborted fetus and perform a gay marriage or two! Gotta keep busy
