I just discovered that I can search the member list to show me all accounts who haven't logged in for the past X days. Since our total member count was approaching 500, I thought it would be a good idea to get a more accurate measurement of our community before we reach such a milestone under false pretense.
I used the following criteria to determine which accounts were to be deleted:
1) The account was not used (logged in) within the past 100 days;
and
2) The account did not pass "Undercard Bum" status (fewer than 25 posts).
Even with those extremely lax guidelines, a couple of hundred accounts were axed. We won't be reaching 500 any time soon.
As a reminder, if you already have an account but forget the login name and/or password, please email me and I will arrange things so you can get back in. If you have tried to set up an account using an AOL email address, you may never receive your confirmation due to AOL's spam filters; emailing me can get around that as well (although it's not a pretty solution). DO NOT make a new account unless there is no other way. Thank you.

I went in several weeks ago to register. I entered the information and it said it sent me an activation code via email, but I never received the email. I tried to generate a new activation code and never received that email either. I am using WMCONNECT for my internet access and email, and as far as I can see, their Mail Center does not have a "junk" or "spam" folder. Can you help me to get activated? My email address is: tutvacs04@wmconnect.com
Thanks

I don't know how many non members suffer from your same fate. But I know there are alot on here that are not registered and it would be nice if they would take all but a minute to actually sign up and commit to really being apart of this community.
One of the best group of people on a discussion board bar none!

There are more people who have problems getting that activation code than I would like, I'm sure. I think I have Tom taken care of; anyone else need help?
Also, adding "nobody@proboards.com" to your address book might let the messages slip past spam filters. Can't hurt to try.

Finally found the time to hit another purgening, using the same criteria. I think we only lost about 60 accounts this time...

Another small purge, of about 20 accounts.

Chris, you recently helped me get on line with my account. There is a problem getting out the activation code on some accounts. Mine was with Verizon, and there are problems with AOL accounts, as mentioned before. Is there anything deliberately set in those codes or their senders that is something we need to account for? I tried the nobody trick, but it didn't work for me in that instance.

I tried the nobody trick, but it didn't work for me in that instance. I have no idea what the specific problem is, other than hyperactive spam filters. Anyone who is having troubles receiving their activation code can email me, and many have. But the majority of the accounts I just deleted were inactive for quite some time, not new registers.

Are there any other purges coming soon or are the majority posting from time to time?

I don't do them on any sort of schedule, clearly. Bascially whenever it occurs to me. Our member count hovering under 300 has had my attention lately.

The current 278 is fairly accurate, although I don't purge accounts with over 25 posts. I know there are several accounts who haven't logged in for a long time (usually due to the AOL problems), but I keep them incase the owners -- some of whom were very active -- decide to contact me about their problems.

Sounds good. I was just wondering if you have seen a flux of activity as of late?
