1: Preacher 2: Sandman 3: The Authority 4: Planetary 5: Watchmen hm no Marvel in there. They need to get on the ball. The Wolverine: Origin story is very good. Also, Astonishing X-Men volumes 1-3 are entertaining.

I was talking about the "crapfest." I am a long-time Wolvie fan, and I enjoyed. Different tastes, you know.

Are we talking about collections only or can we include graphic novels in this as well? Also are we only talking about newer books? If we can mention older graphic novels, one of my favorites is Arkham Asylum. If we can't talk about older graphic novels, don't read this post and skip to the next one.

I've just been picking up all the Dark Horse Star Wars Trades. Been trying to get 4 or 5 a month until I get them all.
I agree though Werner the Arkham Asylum graphic was awesome!

I think DC has most of Swamp Thing in trades these days, actually.
Agreed Arkham Asylum is great.. defintaely worth reading if you find it... as is The LONG HALLOWEEN (by Jeph Loeb, who now writes a little TV show called Heroes).. Definately my fave Batman stuff, even over Dark Knight Returns (which you should also get, if you don't have it)

I'd add 100 Bullets and Y the Last Man to the list of trades to get. The only Marvel trade I've read recently that I reallly liked was the first Sentry one.

Really, you can't go too wrong with Vertigo in generally, its all really quality stuff... well, except maybe Dakota, that was pretty horrible, but otherwise. Another on that's good,( if its in trade, it was a 6 issue mini) is Proposition Player... its about a guy who wins a soul in a poker game, and starts his own afterlife... GREAT stuff.... the creation story he makes up is work the price of the book.. it involves Monkeys

If you're not into the superhero thing as evident by the top 5 list then I'd absolutely recommend Exterminators and Ex Machina. Those 2 are really very cool reads. Also The Boys is suppose to be traded with extra "Director" material. I think in all my years of collecting comics this will be the 1st time I buy a trade of something I have all the single issues of. Of course I'm a devoted Garth Ennis fan, but that does stop me from buy Preacher in trades. Though I did buy a couple of the original art pages from Preacher so that's kinda similiar.

I'm not a huge comics reader, but I just picked up DC Universe: The Stories of Alan Moore. It's a collection of just about all of his stuff that took place with DC characters--no Swamp Thing and no Watchmen, but it does include the complete Killing Joke. And two of the best Superman stories ever told: For the Man Who Has Everything and Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?
Highly recommended, even if you're not as big on superhero stuff, just to see Moore's interpretations of the characters.
