Anyone have the book "Gotch an American Hero" by Mike Chapman. I figure it's been discussed before but I didn't find it in a search.
I just got it from Highspots along with signed copies of Harley Race and Adrian Street's book.
Who knows when I'll read it but I liked the Lou Thesz book and figure reading about Gotch ought to help me with ways to book him in my fed. I'm having him leave for awhile as he hasn't won any gold since the game started and probably is only a .500 wrestler so far.

It's a pretty good book. Mike Chapman is a big Gotch fan, so he's done his homework, but it tends to be a little biased. It's an interesting look at Frank A. Gotch!
I liked Thesz's book more, and I've read Ole Anderson's book a couple of times now. Ole's has his views that are sometimes unpopular, but the way he describes booking the Mid-Atlantic & Georgia circuits with multiple towns running nightly is very fascinating to me.

There are a lot of wrestler books I haven't gotten yet. I got Harley Race and Adrian Street books with the Gotch, Race & Street ones were autographed.

Alright, looks like about five months later I have read the Gotch book. I enjoyed it but also noticed or figured there was some bias in there. I finished it in less than a week and thought it was good. Going by the way Gotch is described in that book his +1 power in Legends is way off. At his peak against Hack the first match they described him as very nearly as strong as the Russian Lion.
I've had Gotch away from the ring for a little while now and will bring him back in the USWA and have him declare his goal of becoming U.S. champ and then the world champion. He will start by wrestling all of the top 10 contenders before taking the U.S. strap.
So now I've started to read Harley Race's book. That one is far too short, less than 200 pages. Glad I didn't pay $25 for it.

Going by the way Gotch is described in that book his +1 power in Legends is way off. If you based Gotch's card on Chapman's description in the book, he'd be able to beat Chaos, Destructon 3000 & Monolith in a handicap match.

Hey Ty, the only thing you really have to remember is that the writer is almost always biased in their point of view. For example when I read the Dynamite Kid book he is just a little biased in his point of view. He talks about getting into a fight with Ray Rougeou. He said Ray had a pair of brass knuckles and that's how Ray won the fight and the only two wittnesses were the Iron Sheik and Nikoli Volkoff. Well during a night of drinking I asked both and Sheik and Volkoff about the fight and they laughed at it. They told me Ray was a tough guy and Dynamite couldn't belive that he lost a fair fight so he changed his story to suit his own outcome. So when you read a book just remember to read every book with an open mind and every story will have two sides.

Even if it is, I'd like to read about Gotch just to learn more about him.
