It starts this week. So what books are you going to get or will you be trying any new books?
I'll be getting back into comics with this event. I fell out of things due to the lack of easy access to a comic shop and lack of cash. So I've been waiting for this event to start getting books again.
I'll definately be getting Batman, Detective Comics and Teen Titans. I'll be checking out a few other books to see if they interest me.
Though Batman has already annoyed me as they'll be starting it off with an 6 part crossover between the books. I hate those.

Dog, I will be getting just about all of them considering I subscribe to nearly 40 titles a month.. the Batman titles will be decent considering the premise is Batman/Robin absent from Gotham for over a year.. Nightwing will be good and has my interest since the new title will not feature Grayson as the main character.. Titans gets better every issue.. Oh and if you are not aware of it yet.. get ready for "52" .. a weekly issue that covers the missing year.. in real time.. So you do you think the daddy of Catwoman's baby will be? What do you think of Infinite Crisis thus far?

Wow. 40 books? Even at my height of reading I think I was only getting 27 books. Are you more of a Marvel or a DC guy?
I'm guessing Bruce is the dad. I can't really imagine it being anyone else really though it'll probably be.
Not really a fan of the Infinite Crisis so far. It's ultimately serving a good purpose but it feels like too much of a rehash of the original Crisis. Plus the main villains aren't credible to me as villains. But you have to understand I'm not a big fan of those cosmic, earth shattering mega events. I like my books to just go about their business with as little crossover as possible for my wallet's sake.
I got Detective Comics today. I have to say I've rarely been happier after finishing a book. After the direction Batman had been taking over the last several years it's good to see them going back for more of the 70s/80s Bat.

I have been hearing a lot of good things about this issue. I was a big Batman collector in the 80's (the Batman character basically got me into comic books). I have boxes and boxes of Batman comics. But in the 90's the character changed so much that he almost became unrecognizable. I eventually gave up reading the Batman comics (which was hard to do). If they are going back to the Batman I first came to enjoy reading about, I will have to start collecting the books again. I hope this issue of Detective hasn't sold out yet.
The bad thing is that these One Year Later stories are coming out at a time when I am trying to cut back on the money I spend on comics!

I've added a few new books to my list of DC books... Blue Beetle and Checkmate. I read both JSA Books, GREEN ARROW which is the one I'm really excited about with the One Year Later story-arc where Oliver Queen becomes the Mayor of Silver City. Checkmate looks great, I'm always a Amanda Waller fan since the days of the Suicide Squad... speaking of the SS, it would be awesome to see them pop up in Checkmate from time-to-time. One Year Later is a great jump-on point for new and old readers.

I thought I read somewhere there is consideration of bringing back Suicide Squad in their own book .. in some fashion.. i.e. monthly or mini..
I am enjoying the whole Infinite Crisis .. not the best I have read but certainly fun.. Superboy Prime's rampage was freakin' cool..
Any guesses on who the new Flash will be?
Personally I am looking forward to One Year Later with Catwoman.. going to be interesting to see how they handle Selina's pregnancy..

Dog, To answer your question.. I am more of a DC guy.. I personally think the writing is better.. most of the time.. on the DC side.. though Marvel has some of the better artwork.. at times..
DC seems to be better at character development than Marvel. While many of the Marvel characters are recognizable.. they seem to meander on a personal level.. when they try to get personal.. like the recent Colossus miniseries.. it gets confused with the back and forth between character and overall story.. While I know they were trying to go more into the rage of Colossus it failed to really further the character. IMO.. by the end of the series.. there wasn't anything really new about Colossus revealed.. Basis of the series.. Colossus has a dark rage.. but not one thing really took place that explained his rage from a personal and emotional level.. anyhow I am rambling now.. suffice to say.. if it were not for visual recognition.. many Marvel characters border on forgettable at this point..

I am also more of a DC guy than Marvel (although I do enjoy Marvel titles.) It seems like DC is willing to take more major risks with their characters (just look at the whole Hal Jordan going insane story. Plus, killing Barry Allen's Flash), while Marvel goes for the short term risk (for example, does anyone really think that the new Spidey costume will last till the end of the year??? Plus, just how many times is Jean Grey going to die and come back to life???). I am also looking forward to what they are going to do with Oliver Queen as mayor. It could create some very interesting stories.

I'm more of a Marvel guy to be honest. I find DC hard to get into as the villains aren't that great minus the big names and the heroes are too strong. It's hard to really get invested into say Superman because the guy is invincible. Heroes I do like like the Flash just have nothing as far as villains. Also when I started collecting DC was still trying to figure out the post-Crisis world and still trying to shake their outdated mentality.
DC's provided a good jumping on point so I'm going to give several of their books a try. Though I'll probably stick mostly to the Bat-Family titles.
Though this will be the first time ever that I read more DC than Marvel. Aside from New Avengers and X-Men books I have little interest in the rest of their books. I finally gave up for good on Spider-Man ever getting better when JMS started on there. Everything else has just been kind of aimless for awhile.
DC still bugs me though. They cave into fanboy demands too easily. We get dumb things like Hal coming back when it's been proven he can't carry a book long term and threw Kyle to the curb when he's proven that he can carry a book. Plus things like Identity Crisis turn me off as blurring the lines really makes it hard to get into stories.
Sometimes I think the Watchmen series was the best and worst thing to happen to the comic world.
