Just curious if anyone has read or started reading Stephen King's new book. It looked kinda good. Especially since I like me a good zombie movie. (or a bad one)

If you are a George Romero (Night of the Living Dead series) fan, or if you love the post -apocolyptic, world-gone-mad horror stories, then this is MUST-HAVE reading.
King gets away from the eerie, slow paced horror and goes for the bloody, violent, mass-catastrophe story that draws you in from the first page.
This is a quality read that hints at a form of terrorism and a truly creepy outcome that is believable and unsettling. BUY IT!!

Just like to throw this out there....
I hung out with George Romero last weekend! He was at a small comic convention i was doing a signing at... what a nice guy!! I called my friend who couldnt attend the con and he talked to him for a few minutes... my friend ( who worships at the temple of all things Romero) bows to me at work now.
I have been waiting for the Stephan King book since it was announced at comic con last year!

I'm about 50 or so pages in...really good so far.
I love reading King...I think his short stories are the best...I don't think he quite knows how to end a long story. For example, It was beautifully written...horrible ending. The Stand...writting was great...ending was so-so. Langoliers also had a poor ending as I recall.

I read it last weekend. I liked it, but I liked Richard Matheson's I am Legend better. Cell's dedicated to Matheson, probably for that reason. Still, it was a good read, and was more than just another zombie story. This is a Stephen King book that I would actually look forward to seeing adapted to a movie.

The story was great right up until the end and then I felt like maybe I had missed something. Oh, well... Still gonna probably buy Cell tho.

Finished this book this past weekend. It was as I expected...pretty good until the end...then King just sort of chops up the end...I think he was low on ink! Graymar

I just finished reading Cell last night. Overall it is a good book to read- I actually came to work exhausted last week on a couple of days because I stayed up late reading the first half. I think the idea of cell phones being manipulated to turn people into zombies is a great and intriguing idea and the first section of the book where Clay and his companions leave a destroyed Boston after witnessing the chaos caused by the Pulse is great.
But I was somewhat disappointed with the second half of the book that I read on Friday and on Saturday in which there is very little suspense- especially after they leave the campus to head north to Maine. I don't want to give too much away but I also think the book ended with too many questions unresolved.
Basically, I enjoyed Cell but it definitely was not as good as I hoped. I would certainly recommend getting it when it comes out on paperback or checking it out from the library. But I don't think it is worth paying over $20.00 to get it right now in hardback. Thankfully, I had a gift certificate at Barnes and Nobles that reduced the price to about $5 for me. Now I'm going to start reading WWE Legends.
Incidentally, I read that Cell is going to be made into a movie directed by Eli Roth who did Cabin Fever. Roth is reportedly going to start working on Cell after he completes Hostel 2. But based on the book, I don't think Cell as a movie will be anywhere near the class of Romero's Living Dead series- especially Night of the Living Dead and the original Dawn of the Dead.

I am reading it next week along with My Friend Leonard... I tend to read two books lately. I am reading FOREVER ODD, by Dean Knootz, right now and I recommend that one for you to read. I think you may like it a bit more than the CELL.
