Don't know if this has been brought up yet...if yes I'm sorry for missing it.
Right now I'm enjoying reading DC's Infinite Crisis books. DC has been doing a great job lately with these large overarching storylines that involve everyone in the DC universe. It all started with the excellent 80-page-for-only-$1 book, Countdown to Infinite Crisis. It was a brilliant marketing strategy as it got people hooked right away. Now there are four spinoff 6- issue mini-series and they are:
The Omac Project (my grade for the first 2 issues - A+...just great stuff).
Villains United (interesting, B+)
Day of Vengeance (again, interesting, B)
Rann-Thanagar War (a little confusing but still worth reading, B-)
I recommend jumping in as soon as possible while you still can. DC is just now releasing the second books in each miniseries. Then there's Infinite Crisis when it's all over.
Anyway, that's how I spend my spare time...

I agree that countdown to infinite crisis has been great so far.. I'm a little nervous about the latest DC announcement.. they're going to jump ahead 1 year (DCU time) right after Infinite Crisis... a story device that has been pretty horrible in the past.
I absolutely can't wait to see what happens when Batman finially confronts the JLA about <edit for spoiler>.
There's alot of back story from OMAC project (specifically Sasha Bourdeux) in Greg Rucka's (I Think) run on Detective Comics
BTW, if the Rann-Thanagar war seems a little confusing, its most likely becuase it really is a sequel to the Adam Strange mini that came out last year... I think it was 8 issues... I haven't read it, but the reviews were really good and the trade is coming out in August . The actually issues may be a bit hard to find, but I wouldn't imagine them selling for all that much.

I have to agree with Tom. I really enjoy the DC Infinite Crisis stories going on. While I agree that Rann-Thanagar is confusing the art is out of this world. I like Villians united but some of the villains are a little hokey in my book. Day of Vengeance isn't bad I'd give it a C+ or B-. The OMAC project is great but I'm a little peeved about what happened to the Blue Beetle. Hey I admit it...I liked him.
Anyone have any thoughts on Marvel's attempted comeback with the House of M?

House of M is sounding a lot like the last couple Marvel company events... "nothing will ever be the same" until they change it back in six months..
the buzz is basically the Scarlet Witch continues to have a nervous breakdown and changed the Marvel Universe so that the Mutants are an elite class that rule the world... supposedly there will be permanent changes....
We'll see...

I agree, Blue Beetle was a good secondary hero along with Booster Gold... but DC Comics are doing something cool once again.
I like the new DC logo, looks very cool...
Marvel Comics just as no draw and the House of M storyline just screws things up and back to the same old same old.
DC Comics is one the better companies right now in the comic book biz.

I'm thinking that somebody else might step forward to play the Blue Beetle role, much the same way that there were other Green Lanterns. It was strange. For decades I've considered the Blue Beetle a secondary character. To me, he was expendable. Then suddenly came that Infinite Crisis book and I really liked him. By the end of the story, he was dead. I apologize Blue Beetle...please come back!

I picked up 'The OMAC Project # 1 and Villians United #1 & 2 and both were excellent. It had been a long time since I'd been in a comic shop, but the dudes in the shop were very cool, helping me pick out some gems (as well as suggesting about 15 titles that I HAD to read! ) One of those suggested titles was the Adam Strange mini-series from last year...so I picked up issue # 1 of that too. With Strange heavily involved in the Rann/Thanager War, its supposed to contain some early seeds of I.C. in it...and the artwork from what I saw was amazing. I'll let you know how it is!

I just read the 80 page Countdown title and loved it. i was not very familirar with the Blue Beetle at all, but i love this book. I think I have to go get OMAC project now, because that is the series that will tie in ost closely with Countdown, But I think I am also going to get villians United. Not real Jazzed about the Rann-Thangar war, too Sci-Fi- hokey for me.

I've just finished part 4 of OMAC, Villains United and Rann/Thanagar. Still enjoying all 3 imensly, but VU has now taken over as my favourite book. Its just such an interesting premise...and the main character Catman has risen to 'almost' hero status and may be in line for a bit of a 'push' once the dust settles.
As for Rann/Thanagar being a little too sci-fi, I agree is does lean that way, but the thing that has really drawn me to the book is the nature of the conflict and the parties involved. Adam Strange is a really 'human' superhero in my eyes, who is just trying to save his family and his new life. I've been reading the Adam Strange 8 part mini along with Rann/Thanagar, and it has really put this whole 'outer space battle' into perspective. Hawkman and Hawkwoman have been forced to fight against their own kind, and Green Lantern is sort of on the outside trying to put the whole puzzle together. I enjoyed the first couple of books more than #3 and #4...but I have faith that #5 and #6 will be a great conclusion to this mini-series. Its just a great commentary on the utter chaos of war.
I've always been a fan of the more earth based heroes, but this story has really got me intrigued about the outer reaches of the DC Universe.
Days of Vengence didn't interest me because it deals with the whole magic/fantasy aspect of DC (from what I've read online) and I'm not at all familiar with any of the main characters.

I really dig dc's villans united....kinda like the suicide squad, but they are making Catman a legit bad ash and a character to care about....

I've now finished each of the 3 mini's that I was reading leading up to Infinite Crisis. In the end, I was a little dissapointed with the final issues of all 3, but overall I really enjoyed them and feel it was money well spent.
The OMAC Project: (A) Probably the closest tie in to IC, it tells a great story and has all the big name heroes in it. The payoff at the end is pretty good, and the last page is a doozy!
Villians United: (B+) Overall I really enjoyed these books, but I was hoping for a bit more in the end. However, a couple of deaths to cool characters and a secret identity revealed that I guessed about 3 books into the series. Still...very cool idea to have a group of (former) bad guys have to fight an even bigger group of bad guys. Catman is now a cult fav of mine.
Rann/Thanagar War: (B+) I had the highest hopes for this one cause I had just started the Adam Strange mini and this 'war' in a galaxy far from earth wasn't my typical D.C. reading...but I really got into the book..and then ish 3-5 were pretty 'meh'. The final book was pretty good, with some interesting twists and all the major characters playing a role in the conclusion (it all comes together pretty nicely). I just thought something BIGGER was going to happen.
Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the lead in to IC (along with JLA), and look forward to reading the new JLA and Infinite Crisis # 1 over the weekend.

A little dissapointed with the last page but I will ride it out because the whole book had that epic feel. Im glad I waited to read it last out my D.C. pile of stuff because it was pretty good.

This sounds awesome. I stopped collecting comics over a year ago because it got too expensive, but i'll definitely pick this up when it comes out in graphic novel form.

Has anyone else picked up Infinite Crisis #4? I think its been all me and my buddies at work have talked about for a couple of days. It was pretty heavy. All I got to say is Super Boy vs the Titans, JSA, Doom Patrol and none of them stopped him...

I found the first three books to be a little confusing and not up to the hype, but like you said #4 was pretty heavy and I thought it was much better. Now I'm looking forward to how this series turns out.

Yeah what really is getting to me is if you dont buy every DC book you can get lost. Not only the regulars (Superman,Batman, and Wonder Women) but the other eight mini series that they churn out. I even read the original Crisis on Infinite Earths to get the whole picture. Its still a bit tough.Im just a huge DC mark though so I cant complain that much.

Don't forget JSA, JLA, Teen Titans, and the Outsiders for that matter. I just read issue four a couple of days ago and all I can say is wow. I have a feeling the DC universe is going to change in a major way in the next couple of months and I like that idea.

The whole crisis storyline has been good-great all the way through. I read 3 of the mini series (OMAC, VU and RTW), as well as the Batman monthly, and have read up to #4 in IC and have that same feeling that this is going somewhere. Some people have said that its hard to keep up with everything going on, but I think DC did a great job of having a main storyline (the 4 mini series) as well as the individual characters doing their own thing in their own book. I didn't read Superman or WonderWoman, but I know what went down and how WonderWoman is on the brink and Superman may have to fight himself to the death...
Looking forward to the rest of IC and then the series 52 and One Year After. Should be good...
