I thought it would be good for fanboys of Comic Books or Books to have a forum, so I asked the all mighty Chris I. and agreed.
I've been a comic book collector for along time now, and there are some great books that I have read and continue to read from time to time.
So let the talks begin...

Dennis, I agree it was a good idea to add this topic. COTG was created from equal parts comic books (with sci fi mixed in) and wrestling.
I pick up a series and read it now and then. I'm no longer loyal to any particular book because the creative teams change too often. Right now I'm reading Batman/Superman.
Every time I like a book it gets cancelled. My loyalty is the kiss of death. I was reading Metropolis and Namor and they're both gone. A few years back I enjoyed Martian Manhunter and then it got cancelled too.
I also read Thanos, but I doubt I'll read it after Jim Starlin leaves the book, which will be very soon I hear. A book like Thanos is as much an influence on COTG as RAW.

I haven't read any comics consistently for many years now. I'll buy something here and there and like to order back issues.
I am reading Silver Surfer's new title and the Avengers storyline that started with the .50 cent issue. Brian Bendis is taking over Avengers this summer, the series is going to end and get restarted later this year. How many times do you need to restart a book? Just one of the reasons I stopped reading so long ago.

Comics! Yeah I had a comic collection when I was about 12 years old. I had over 300 books (nowhere near MINT condition)! Mostly Marvel books, I wasn't into DC or the independents. I put what was left of them on top of the closet, and forgot about them. (Not worth much now, are they? Hehe!) Todd McFarlane got me back into comics back in the mid 90's. I always thought his artwork was amazing! I managed to buy the books I really needed (Spidey 300, Death of Superman, and Spawn 1). Once the storylines from the major titles didn't interest me, and AnotherUniverse.com's shipping prices got too high, I stopped buying comics. I do have a 10 year run of Uncanny X-Men, the first issue of X-Files (bought at $50 and I watched it plummet in value ) and the first 50 issues of Spawn. I was getting into RAZOR when "bad-girl" comics were popular. I would love to have the first issues of INUYASHA, but can't find them. BATTLE OF THE PLANETS is the only series that I am now collecting. If anyone knows where I can find a place that I can get comics priced AT LEAST 50% off Wizard value (I will never understand how they set prices), AND has shipping & handling charges less than $5, please let me know! I used to order from AnotherUniverse.com when they were "Entertainment This Month". They had extremely cheap prices back then, with very reasonable shipping/handling charges.

The last comics that I consistently read were the CrossGen Comics(Brath, Way of the Rat, the Path, Scion, along with others), and Rising Stars by J. Michael Straczynski. I haven't read either since. But, they were really good while I was reading them.
I have read all of Frank Miller's Sin City stories, along with Batman: Dark Night Returns. My favorites are Infinity Gauntlet(never can get tired of the story), Dark Phoenix Saga, Watchmen(one of the best stories, comic or otherwise, I have ever read), Inhumans, Maus(a great biography about the author's, Art Spiegelman's, father's experience during the Holocaust), along with a number of other older Marvel and DC stories.

I haven't read comics in a couple of years, but I remember Garth Ennis put out some of the coldest comics I have ever read. Does anyone know if the "Preacher" movie is still in the works? I always thought Val Kilmer would make an excellent Cassidy and the Saint of Killers was damn near Eastwood in panels.

See I didn't want to mention that particular sore spot about the whole Rising Stars problem. :'(I just wanted to concentrate on how good the ones that I've gotten to read have been.

It was such a good series, and to see it hang unfinished so close to the end..... is just a slap in the face to his fans, regardless of what Marvel job he has. I, as a fan, am very disappointed with that.

I agree that it sucks when a book is not finished, I never looked into the Rising Stars books so I can't comment on that title.
A title that I wished that they would've never stopped but it just did not get good sales was NOVA. The 70's version was the best, I remember going to a comic book store and getting the back issues, #1 was my first issue and man it was so cool. I still have that same copy and another with a complete set. I hated when he joined New Warriors and he was a kid all over again, that was bad.
Another old title that I just got into via the JSA is the FREEDOM FIGHTERS. Uncle Sam, Dollman, Black Condor, The Ray, The Human Bomb and the Phantom Lady came to Earth A from Earth X of the DCU. Very cool title in the mold of classic DC.

Amen...I couldn't agree more. I think that's why he's doing Squadron Supreme now to make up for that. Or he just doesn't want to do 2 titles that are very similiar, but man would I love to see Rising Stars finished. Crazy that he can finish Midnight Nation and not RS....
