Morton Downey Jr. Show Pro Wres '87

LWPD (this is a classic segment from the tabloid show hosted by Morton Downey Jr. circa '87...a sign of the times as everything from 'blading' to predetermination of matches is aggressively defended from being exposed by disgruntled ex-wrestler Jim Wilson...who is confronted on the panel by Dr. D David Shultz, Ted Arcidi, Dennis Carluzo, Larry Sharpe, Paul Heyman (phoning in) and Captain Lou Albano...Thunderbolt Patterson also appears to talk about issues of racism but is out-shouted and out-numbered...it is unlikely anything like this would air on television today...an emotionally charged viewing in a circus-like atmosphere that runs just under 45 minutes in total...highly recommended for pro wres history aficionados)
"Did they ever ask me to win or lose a match?...EVERY NIGHT...in 1974...T-Bolt and I were together in this...in trying to elevate the position of the performers...through money and benefits...a shared equity in the billion dollar a year pie that is not being distributed equitably..."
-Jim Wilson...who attempted to talk about problems with-in the industry...but found himself surrounded by nothing but hostility
"You want somebody to give you something for nothing...you're the one crying about it...you're a piece of sh$t...I'll rip your eye balls out...you hear me...I'll whizz in your skull..."
-former pro wrestler turned bounty hunter David Shultz with a face to face threat to Jim Wilson moments after throwing a cup of water in his face...note this was not a 'cooperatively scripted' exchange
"As a black man you are limited...I drew money all over the country...and I just wanted the same chance the rest of them was getting...there's a whole lot of individuals that pretend...that they are not prejudice..."
-Thunderbolt Patterson...a controversial figure who claimed to be the victim of racial discrimination
"Anytime I got beat I got beat by a better man...I will say they overmatch...I don't know of any pre-arrangment...no one ever came to me..."
-Captain Lou Albano on not knowing of fixed matches
"1975-6 I was in Charlotte...I was training Tony Atlas...his first week in wrestling he made $900...I made $400...he got pushed because he was black...you got pushed because you were black...and I was a better wrestler than you...which was reverse discrimination...I didn't get the job because you were there..."
-a disgruntled Pretty Boy Larry Sharpe argues with Thunderbolt Patterson
"Me and Jim...we're here...we're out of place...it's just like Jesse Jackson...I'm giving you the facts...but you've got individuals like this here...wrestling is a white man's business..."
-Thunderbolt Patterson
