For those of you who aren't registered at CrazyMax...
"Guys i will have a copy of both matches by November.
The hotel staff where i stayed in santo domingo were very helpful in my search. They put me in contact with a very knowledgible wrestling fan who showed me his scrap book ticket stubbs and pictures from both matches. He has both original broadcast of the matches on a beta tape and is willing to have them converted for me. I offered him $100 american dollars if he can have this done for me. Hopefully we will have this footage in our hands.
He told me how they litteraly shut the town down as it was like a major moment in sports history and the news coverage was following Veno on the daily as he prepared for his match with Flair. The crowds were out of control and yes gun shots were fired.
DR is beautiful and the natives are very nice if you are friendly, a simple smile and "come sta primo" (cousin how are you ?) goes a long way
the country is very poor and the semi wealthy make the equivalent of $80 american dollares every 2 weeks.
Hotel staff treats you like a king and run to your every beck and call,
you can buy anything over the counter at the pharmacy, i had the worst knee cramps from the flight and got tylenol with codine with no perscription needed. Guys were buying viagra like candy.

And DJMIKENICE, the guy who posted this, has a very good reputation among tape dealers. I wouldn't say it's etched in stone, but this isn't just some anonymous schlub.

Oh my, Cory Olson will be in 7th Heaven! Yes he will! He's at some camp in Nebraska until tomorrow night working as a counselor, but I'm sure he'll flip out when he hears this. He spent a year teaching in the DR and saw some footage of Jack Veneno, but could never track down these matches. Thanks for passing the info along Pete, haven't got a login at Crazy Max yet. |

Chad called my cell while I was at camp to give me the good news. Thanks for posting this, Ty! I am going to head over to this site and look into it. Yes, Travis, Veneno is the plan for my next set of four bootlegs on our Yahoo Group. Summer has been busier than I expected, so the release keeps getting pushed back. I had actually thought about trying to find Veneno when I lived in the D.R. A guy I talked to online said he walks in this park in Santo Domingo (D.R. capital) every Saturday morning. I had thought about going there from Santiago (where I lived). But Santo Domingo can be a dangerous place, so I didn't want to risk my life...even for LOW!  |

One more thing. There is limited footage of old J.V. on YouTube if you do a search. There is a clip of one of the Flair matches on there. It appears that someone taped it off TV...and what I mean is they played the tape on a TV/VCR, then videotaped the TV screen showing the match! If you watch the one clip, they make it look like Veneno pinned Flair clean. According to both Flair and Piper's books, Flair called an audible on the finish, when he feared for his and Piper's lives. Watching the one clip, it appears there's a "jump cut" or two on the footage, so they may have doctored some clips together to make it look like Veneno pinned Flair clean. |

Hopefully this guy in the D.R. will come through. If Mike actually gets this sometime down the road then the odds are very good that I'll get it from him. Figuring he is only going to sell it for awhile but he has to get the disk first.

Watch carefully as the referee counts. It looks like a "jump cut" is made between each count. I think they put that together to make it look like Veneno pinned Flair clean, rather than the controversial improved ending. According to Flair's autobiography, in their first meeting, they went the time limit with Veneno putting Flair out with the sleeper (La Polemica). The second one (from which I'm guessing this footage was taken) was when Piper interfered but the Dominican police were going to shoot him, so Flair let Veneno pin him. |
