Mick McManus vs Johnny Saint 1982tinyurl.com/35qjmxThis was from All Star Promotions on the famous World of Sport. Six five minute rounds with two falls (pin, submission or KO) to a finish. European Heavyweight Champion Mick McManus is seen at his near unbeatable peak. The timeless Johnny Saint was one of the best technicians the world of pro wres has ever seen. A highly recommended lengthy viewing for fans of the style. LWPD (Mick McManus is one of the most famous heels of UK pro wres...and was on par with a late 70's era Harley Race in terms of how he was presented and booked over the years...I'll be on the look out for more footage from his prime)

Sandman vs Raven 12/7/96tinyurl.com/2vz8gwThis was from Paul Heyman's Extreme Championship Wrestling. A barbed wire match for the ECW Heavyweight Title. Champion Sandman vs Challenger Raven. The peak of both men's careers. LWPD (looking back some things ECW are better when recalled from memory than when re-watched)

Very true LWPD, I remember thinking how awesome RVD/Sabu against SHinzaki/Hayabusa from Heatwave 98 was so awesome but when I rewatched it recently...it was a train wreck of missed spots, language barriers and numerous other mishaps

Very true LWPD, I remember thinking how awesome RVD/Sabu against SHinzaki/Hayabusa from Heatwave 98 was so awesome but when I rewatched it recently...it was a train wreck of missed spots, language barriers and numerous other mishaps I think one of Paul Heyman's greatest strengths was his ability to create an energy and aura around his product that made it come off better than it really was. When watching it out of context years after the fact...it often doesn't hold up and the rabid crowd reactions seem confusing. Not to mention the recklessness...knowing what we know now about the life changing effects of concussions I cringe at all the chair shots and needless head drops all done for entertainment value...it wasn't worth it.

Rick Martel vs Stan Hansen 9/28/85tinyurl.com/2bgt6rThis was from Verne Gagne's American Wrestling Association at SuperClash. Rick Martel was the AWA World Champion. Challenger Stan Hansen is seen at his peak. A wild brawl...with a finish that didn't do the promotion any favors. LWPD (the Brazos Valley Backbreaker was Hansen's version of the Boston Crab....in the rematch between these two SH would cause Martel to submit en route to winning the Championship)

I was a huge ECW fan back in the day, but yeah, Paul really could manipulate people to liking his product even when it wasn't so good. Still Raven vs Dreamer and to a lesser extent Raven vs Sandman will never be bad.

Mr. Olympia vs Paul Orndorff 2/3/82 tinyurl.com/2xgg9gThis was from Bill Watts Mid South promotion. Mr. Olympia was the Mississippi State Champion. A young Paul Orndorff is seen in the role of challenger. A nice sprint viewing with a 'clean finish'...the world won't explode if one guy wins and one guy loses cleanly....it enhances the product and people's perception of it...something that's been largely forgotten today. Bill Watts calls the action alongside Boyd Pierce. LWPD (Mr. Olympia was played by Jerry Stubbs...a highly skilled in ring performer who early in his career excelled in an enhancement role and became a mainstay star in the Southern territories well into the late 80's...he would be a great LOW signing and may in fact be a practical target)

Mr. Olympia vs. Bob Roop 7/15/82tinyurl.com/2s5wh7This was from Bill Watts Mid South promotion. Mr. Olympia is seen as the Mississippi State Champion. Bob Roop was a highly credited Greco Roman wrestler who competed in the '68 Olympics. Bill Watts and Boyd Pierce call the action. Mr. Olympia Sleeper +2
LWPD (Bob Roop was a legit force inside the ring...his amateur skills allowed him to dominate when need be and he was often used as an enforcer when necessary...BR was a mainstay in the Southern territories for a period of two decades before a car crash ended his career)

Colonel Buck Robley vs One Man Gang 9/15/82tinyurl.com/32ff7hThis was from Bill Watts Mid South Wrestling. This was formatted as a Lumberjack Match. A young One Man Gang shows himself to be a promising big man. Buck Robley was working a tenure as one of BW's bookers...here he essentially places himself in an against all odds underdog role. Watch for the Bill Watts staple 'clean finish' in a match that reminds of the definitive power of the pencil principle. LWPD (look at some of the talent surrounding the ring in lumberjack roles...Paul Orndorff, Mr. Wrestling II, JYD, Iron Mike Sharpe, 'Dick Murdoch, Killer Khan...an eclectic group of stars from the early 80's)

Butch Reed vs Iron Sheik 4/8/83tinyurl.com/2qq8syThis was from Bill Watts Mid South Wrestling. Butch Reed had established himself as a heel...yet here he's seen simply as an 'American'. The Iron Sheik is seen at his peak. Will there be a clean finish? LWPD (after the 'Iranian Revolution' the Ayatollah Khomeini was a popular 'hate target' in pro wres circles across the US...yet in real life the Iron Sheik had no affiliation with him and had previously served as a body guard for the man he overthrew...the Shah....corrupt puppet leader of the Kingdom of Persia...who's power was propped up by the US Government...in this quid pro quo the US helped fund and the CIA helped support his tyrannical police state which saw the execution of thousands of political dissenters...in exchange came an annual taking of an unaudited 40% of all national oil reveunue...go figure)

Junkyard Dog/Mr. Olympia vs Ted DiBiase/Matt Borne 2/16/83tinyurl.com/2mjqvnThis was from Bill Watts Mid South Wrestling promotion. No DQ for the Mid South Tag Team Titles...the man who loses the fall 'must leave town' for ninety days. Ted DiBiase was the North American Champion. Matt Borne was a well positioned mid card heel who was subbing for an MIA Hacksaw Duggan. In the role of Tag Team Champions JYD (the face of the promotion) and Mr. Olympia (one of the great 'lost workers' of the 80's) are standing tall for MSW. Listen as Watts puts over the storyline in detail in the preamble with a cameo by legendary promoter Paul Boesch. Look for a surprise finish as Formula A foreshadows the Formula B to come. LWPD (looking back I'm very impressed with the way Watts got the absolute most out of JYD...combining the uniqueness of walk in music with placement in 'short spurts' hero spots on television...where he was surrounded with good workers who were able to cover up his weaknesses while accentuating the things he did to a superhuman level...JYD really did come off as a credible star inside the ring...and most importantly he drew a tremendous amount of money relative to the time frame)

Magnum TA vs Ted DiBiase 5/27/84tinyurl.com/2zvp69 This was from Bill Watts Mid South Wrestling. North American Champion Magnum TA showed great promise and the potential for bigger things ahead. Ted DiBiase was the quintessential territory heel of the early 80's....and shows why behind the scenes he was a strong candidate for a future run as NWA World Champion. An interesting glimpse of both in an all out brawl. LWPD (looking back has reminded me of just how good of an all around performer Ted DiBiase was long before his WWF/Million Dollar Man stint...in fact face/heel or singles/tag...he was always a pivotal player for Watts during all of his MSW stints over the years)

Sgt. Slaughter vs Wahoo McDaniel 1982tinyurl.com/2pzdlcThis was from Jim Crockett's Mid Atlantic promotion. U.S. Champion Sgt. Slaughter is seen at his peak. Wahoo McDaniel was a legendary figure in the Carolina region. Hard hitting and technically sound...a staple of the JCP brand. LWPD (early 80's heel Sgt. Slaughter was one of my all time favorites...he could do it all and successfully main evented as a top foil throughout much of the territory system)

Mr. Olympia vs. Chavo Guerrero 6/24/83tinyurl.com/29wflcThis was from Bill Watts Mid South Wrestling. Mr. Olympia is seen this time in the role of heel. Chavo Guerrero s seen at his peak. A great overall performance by both with the standard BW clean finish. LWPD (later referred to in WWE as Chavo Classic....CG was an excellent in ring performer...from father to son all of the Guerreros were as technically sound as could be)

Rey Mysterio Jr. vs El Hijo del Santo 2/21/97tinyurl.com/2gnhkdThis was from a card based out of Tijuana, Mexico. Rey Mysterio Jr. is seen with all the potential in the world. El Hijo del Santo is seen in the role of technico legend. Two of the biggest lucha stars of the decade go tres caidas. Highly recommended. LWPD (due to the players involved this one is well worth going out of your way to see...from an acrobatic standpoint Rey sure was something to watch before his knees got destroyed)

Harley Race vs Giant Baba 12/9/75tinyurl.com/2vhh2mThis was from All Japan. Legend/owner/booker Giant Baba is seen in his prime. A young Handsome Harley Race was a former NWA World Champion who is seen on tour. Two legendary names from the 70's in a well worked lengthy match, LWPD (Harley Race had one of the most expensive offensive arsenals of the era...combine that with his ring generalship and it's easy to see why he was so successful)

Magnum TA vs Ted DiBiase 7/6/84tinyurl.com/2gbxbvThis was from Bill Watts Mid South Wrestling. A rematch for the North American title from a previous match posting. Magnum TA plays the fiery baby face while DiBiase gives a textbook example of just how great of a ring general he was. A 'smash mouth' serious sport style Watts match wrapped up with a clean finish. LWPD (two of my favorite signature moves of the early to mid 80's were the DiBiase fist drop and powerslam...which was on par with Buzz Sawyer's version)

Funny, I too was a big fan of DiBiase's power slam and fist drop. He just made the moves always look good and that they were really worth using unlike today when some guy hits super high flippy move and the opponent is up 2-3 second later.
