A friend of mine and myself were talking today and Nikita Koloff came up. I said, "Can you believe he didn't win the rookie of the year from PWI in 1984?" He asked who did and I answered Mike von Erich! (GACK!)
Now don't get me started on why we talk about it, we just like to talk about "our good ol' days". But I have a question:
Yeah, they were fake, but WHY IN THE WORLD did they give Mike von Erich that over someone who could have been the future (if his wife didn't pass away) like Nikita.
Was it out of sympathy due to David's death?!? That was one mystery I could never...EVERRRRRRRRRRRR...figure out!
Keep the dice rolling.....

PWI always had a hard-on for the Von Erichs. I do not know why.
For what it's worth, speaking of PWI's polls being fake...as a kid I always wondered why PWI was in black and white when, according to the polls, they had thousands, upon thousands, upon thousands, upon thousands of readers...in turn, making them seem like a very profitable magazine...
then Tim Dalton told me the polls were fake and it was such a disappointment I never bought another PWI or any other wrestling mag again.
true story.

Mike Von Erich winning the Rookie of the Year was a bad choice but what about the year that PN News beat Johnny B Badd for the award
That was a huge joke

Actually, I was just rereading that issue, and Johnny B. Badd did win out over P.N. News for Rookie of the Year - not that either made anything of himself. (Check out the "votes for others" at the bottom of the page, and you'll notice the name "Rob Zakowski". I think he's done something in wrestling since then...) Besides, that was the year that PWI, in their continuing quest to never give WWF major awards over WCW, awarded the Tag Team of the Year to the immortal Enforcers, who broke up about a week after the issue came out... over the LOD, who had just won the Triple Crown of tag titles that year. Way to go PWI! No way to ever guess that half of your magazine staff was on WCW's payroll! (Don't believe me? Look at the writing credits of any old issue of WCW magazine.)

You mean my vote never counted? All those years licking all those envelopes...
PWI hated the WWF and even had to write an article to try and deny it once. It was cool though, because I hated the WWF too, although I do agree LOD deserved TTOTY in 1991 more than the Enforcers.

Until Hogan came in, I was always split, but I used to love looking at the awards and trying to figure out how PWI justified their awards. Luger over Austin for Wrestler of the Year? Hogan over Hart for Wrestler of the Year? Giant over Michaels for Wrestler of the Year? How dare we give the WWF the Wrestler of the Year award? Or how about the year that Harlem Heat beat Public Enemy by (wait for it) 1 vote to win the Tag Team of the Year? Or is the truly sad thing the fact that I remember all of these awards? You know PWI is foaming at the mouth, waiting for TNA to grow a bit so it can start giving TNA the bulk of the awards. Hmmm...Jarrett over Edge for Wrestler of the Year? Well, why not - Jarrett did have...well...none of the great title matches this past year!!! Let's do it!!!
