Hey Everyone,
I was wondering where and when some of these special matches originated...
Steel Cage (1970's?) Falls Count Anywhere Ladder (I don't remember one before WMX) I Quit (I don't remember one before Blanchard-Magnum T.A. at Starrcade '85) Dog Collar (I don't remember one before Piper-Valentine at Starrcade '83) Bullrope First Blood Indian Strap (Maybe Wahoo McDaniel introduced this?) Texas Death Stretcher
Any help would be apprecitaed. Thanks.

I believe the Steel Cage match was actually introduced in Houston sometime in the 1950's. If I recall correctly, they called it a "Fence Match."
FCA I'm not sure of, although I think I've read results from the 70s with those stipulations.
I think Bret Hart brought the Ladder Match concept from Calgary to the WWF. I think Dynamite Kid and Bruce Hart may have fought over the MidHeavyweight title under those stips. There's a WWF IC match between Bret & Micheals on an old Coliseum video release that takes place before WMX. I have it on tape somewhere....
I believe Fred Blassie fought John Tolos in both Dog Collar and Stretcher Matches, which would have been in the late 60's/early 70's. I'm not sure if they originated in LA, but I know they took place back then.
Dory Funk, Sr. was promoted as the "King of the Texas Death Match", so perhaps those stips developed in the Amarillo territory in the 50's. I've read that the practice of blading was popularized in Texas by a wrestler named Doc Sarpolis (sp?), so it wouldn't surprise me if some of these matches on your list (bull rope, first blood, strap, etc.) were developed down there. I have Texas program clippings from the early 70's speaking of a "triangle match", which would have been the predecessor to ECW's Three Way Dance concept.
Sorry for the vagueness on dates, but I hope this is helpful to your research.

Brian:
I did some more checking in the "On the Mat: Southern Memories" annual and I have found the following info:
FCA matches were done as far back as 1968, where they were called "explosive" matches. There were a pair done between Ken Lucas & Dennis Hall vs. Tojo Yamamoto & Johnny Long in Chattanooga, TN, in November & December.
Program reprints in that issue also point to a Coal Miner's Glove Match in Atlanta in 1972.
Finally, this same annual issue has an interview with Don Greene, where he claims he had the first scaffold match with Jerry Jerrett. This probably would have been some time in the early 70's.
Not sure if these are the origins of any of these matches, but it's the earliest I was able to dig up.

Good snoop work there Chad. I'm not looking for exact dates or anything, just the general era. In my Early Fed, I'm still in 2074, and I'm about to have my first "POW Rules" (Titan Death) Match, so I started thinking of when I should introduce other special matches, as I want to kind of mirror what happened 100 years ago.
