There are a number of wrestling-related documentaries due for release later this year:
Mickey Grant has a film coming out looking at the life and death of Chris Adams called "Gentleman's Choice". Grant is quite a respected film maker with some of his previous works picked up by HBO and BBC in the U.K. The story of Chris Adams is an interesting one. He was born and raised in England later moving to the United States in the early 80s, where he became a professional wrestler. He first came to prominance in World Class Championship Wrestling in Texas, working for Fritz Von
Erich. His most memorable program with teaming with Gino Hernandez to become known as "The Dynamic Duo". Hernandez turned on Adams and "blinded" him. Adams would come to the ring with a cane and feel his way through his matches for quite some time, but it helped him become a
babyface. He also had a major feud that lasted over a year with Kevin Von Erich. He was the second WCCW Heavyweight Champion, defeating a Rick Rude for the title. He was married to Jeanie Clark from the late 1980's to 1990. Jeanie was also married to Steve Austin shortly after their divorce.
Adams appeared in WCW in the mid to late 90s as a TV jobber. He never achieved the success that he did in Texas. He had drug and alcohol problems that plagued him his entire career. He did a year in prison for assault starting in late 1990 and had two DUI's that he got put on probation for. On October 7, 2001, he was accidentally shot and killed by a friend while they were both intoxicated. At the time he was awaiting trial for the overdose-death of his girlfriend one year before. The exact details of his death are still shrouded in mystery to this day. Chris' ex-wife, Brandi died a few months later from an overdose,
leaving their young daughter behind with no parents. Film maker Grant told me: "We plan to transfer the film to 35mm but I've delayed the completion as I have some new material to shoot that sheds new light on Chris' murder charges. The film will include much of the footage from his shows with WCCW. I made a deal with Kevin (Von Erich) for that material. Also, I spent considerable time in London taping interviews with Jeanie (Clark) and his parents and brother Neil. Much time is devoted to the murder charge and to the man who shot him." The website
