I remember watching some of the bloodiest matches in the days before ECW in the old UWF.
The best tag team to spill blood and cause major damamge was the one and only New Zealand Sheepherders. I think it was Butch who does the knee into the gut while both men coming off the ropes after he through him into the ropes, now that was a sick move that just caused pain.
Dr.Death Steve Williams was the best wrestler in the UWF in my opinion.
It was a shame that the NWA took out the UWF, maybe today we still would have a UWF... but then again all thats left is the WWE atop the wrestling hill.

The UWF was one of the best feds ever
Feuds like Steve Williams vs Terry Gordy Ted Dibiase vs One Man Gang
And the best one Sheepherders vs the Fantastics
Bill Watts did a great job with the UWF. To bad the NWA bought it

Man, the WWF really ruined the Sheepherders. I can't believe they took two fairly good hardcore wrestlers and turned them into cartoons.

To bad the NWA bought it I was at a live UWF show in Little Rock when I was young, and the Fantastics and the Sheepherders put on one of the bloodiest barbed wire matches I have ever seen. I also remember Rock and Sting wrestled Ted DiBiase and Dr. Death. YOu could tell even then that the Blade Runners were going to blow up at some point, either as a team or as singles competitors.

Even before it was the UWF...when it was Mid South Wrestling, the fed was one of the best ever. Mid-South was, to the best of my knowledge, where the classic Express (Midnights vs Rock-n-Roll) feud began. Also had great feuds such as JYD vs Dibiase, Dibiase vs Hacksaw Duggan, Devastation Inc. vs whoever, Magnum TA vs Mr Wrestling II, Dr. Death vs Terry Taylor and so forth. What was really sad was seeing some of these guys go to Hulkamania-Land and become nothing more than mid-card stiffs used to put Hogan's next opponent over.
Of course, being from Texas does lend me a bit of a bias in this retrospective but I have never thought the product that either Dubbya See Dubbya nor the Dubbya Dubbya Eff (as it was known) ever held the same intensity nor entertainment that Mid-South/UWF nor World Class Championship Wrestling held. Why? Because, to quote Kurt Angle "the marquee says wrestling". Something the promoters in UWF and WCCW understood...and something that the McMahonites still haven't grasped.
Don't get me wrong. I still sometimes watch RAW or SD but...been a long time since I actually watched a wrestling show on TV. I would say I haven't seen a wrestling show since...well ever since the demise of Mid-South/UWF.
