Happy 90th Birthday to Hall of Fame Detroit Tigers radio broadcaster, Ernie Harwell. This guy is awesome. One of the best broadcasters in the history of sports. Jim Rome had him on a few moths ago and Rome just raved about how great Harwell is. I grew up listening to this guy and he was synonymous with Tiger baseball. His famous, "And it's LOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNGGGGGGG GONE!" was awesome. Anyone who lives to see 90 deserves a hardy congratulations! Thanks for the memories, Ernie! Already immortalized at Comerica Park:

Harwell is awesome. Gives the pertinent facts, tells us what's happening, and otherwise gets out of the way. I always make it a point to watch whenever ESPN drags him out to call an inning or two of a game.

I haven't had the chance to hear much of Harwell over the years (at least for just calling a regular old game), but I can appreciate his skill at a deceptively difficult job. His type of broadcaster is a dying breed. Happy birthday Ernie!

The greatest announcer ever in any sport. Period. What does Bryant Gumble have to do with any of this? ;D In all honesty though, Ernie Harwell is, without question, the best there is, best there was, and best there ever will be. He is the Kevin Nash of baseball commentators. I don't know how I missed this thread yesterday, but I guess I just stood there like a house on the side of the road and watched it go by. (A fan from Mount Clemons got that one).
