Here's a little bit of advice from someone who's seen a few too many friends and acquaintances buried prematurely at the hands of drunk drivers, and has had family members responsible for the same crimes as Mr. Leyritz:
If you're out drunk for any reason--say, New Year's Eve--and feel the need to drive, please do the rest of us a favor and do the following:
1. Take your car to a garage or some other enclosed space.
2. Shut the garage door.
3. Roll down the windows.
4. Turn on the engine.
5. Sit there for awhile.
That way you'll only do yourself in and spare those of us who are sober.
Harsh? You bet--but if you've seen friends put six feet under and family members go to prison because of DUIs, you'd probably feel harshly about it, too.
Especially for guys like Jim Leyritz who, at 44, is 3 times the age at which he should know better, and having earned $11+ million over his career should be able to afford a f***ing cab.

Dang. Sounds like trouble all around.
Don't drink and drive, people.

There is no excuse for anyone to drive drunk but when you are rich and famous, really is a limo that expensive. Joe Blow can't offer to pay someone to drive for him. Somebody who is loaded (with money) should be able to afford to hire someone to drive when he is loaded (with Margaritas). PS - I really wish things like this wouldn't happen just so I wouldn't have to agree with Pete on anything.

Well said Pete, I totally agree. Waste your own life if you have to, but don't ruin it for others. I, too, have seen friends and relatives taken from us early and sent to prison for this crap as well. I drink, but am responsible enough to know when to say when and not drive.

I agree with Avarice.
This is sort of a sensitive subject for me because I've personally seen way too many friends and family members taken way before their time due to drinking and driving.
I'm not against going out and having a good time- me and two fo my friends from out of town recently on a non-school night went out drinking on the Strip all night until about 8 AM the next morning and it was fun as Hell.
But the thing is- whenever I go out drinking I ALWAYS either know ahead of time that I have a safe ride home or I call a cab. I drink, but I don't drink AND drive.
