Breaking News: Bobby Petrino to resign from Atlanta to coach Arkansas.
When will college coaches learn that their system will not work in the NFL?

This is amazing.
What a douche. Let's see...he's instrumental in trading away Matt Schaub, he can't get along with many of his veterans, he cuts their best DL Grady Jackson duing the bye week which sends DeAngelo Hall into a rage, he tells Joey Harrington he's being benched through the media, and now he can't even stay the entire season before cutting out on a five-year contract? WTF?
I don't know if it's system or it's the personality of these coaches that creates a situation where they aren't able to communicate with grown men.

It's not that surprising. Read a great article a few week ago mentioning how so many of these college coaches bully these kids and demand accountability when guys like Petrino and Saban run from jobs when these tactics don't work with grown men. What message do they send when they can't honor their contract?

Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer made it work at least for a while, but yeah, college coaches in the pros just don't make for a good mix generally.

Call it the Steve Spurrier clause...I can't recall an instance before him right now, but it's probably happened.

At least Petrino had the decency and courage to send in his resignation by phone.

At least he didn't lie about not going for weeks before going. I'll at least give him that much.

Honestly, he was a terrible coach and made god-awful in-game decisions. If that team hadn't been ridiculously talented, he'd have been a laughing stock.

Still, he's one that can be pointed to for some measurable "success." The percentage of college-to-pro coaches doing much still stinks, though.

Nice to see some honesty, that's for sure.
