I don't know where to put this thread, so I will put it here and rely on a moderator to correct me....
I don't know how many of you know about Pat Tillman, the Arizona Cardinals safety who turned down a 3 year, $3.6 million contract to enlist in the army and join the Rangers with his brother Kevin. After 9/11, he did so and earned his tab before reporting to Afghanistan where he was taking part in Operation Mountain Storm.
Tillman repeated turned down interviews after he enlisted because he felt his decision was no different than every other who volunteered to serve his or her country. Quite often we celebrate our sports heroes for their actions on the field. Occasionally, those heroes are deserving of that praise off of the field. Pat Tillman entertained us on the football field, but he showed us what true heroism is about in making the ultimate sacrifice on the field of battle in a firefight with al Queda and/or Taliban remnants.
We have lost a large number of good people in this war on terrorism, most of whom will never be recognized. Pat Tillman was one of them, and like the rest exemplified the true spirit of heroism, athlete or not.
EDIT by Chris: Sports seems the best place for this.

...and it appears that Mike was beaten to it. Put any replies in that thread, as I'm going to lock this one.
