***I was initially going to post this in the cryptic Who's Getting Banned? thread before it was locked. I'll just start this in a 'general appreciation' for those who continue to keep the online CotG communities functioning.***
It's very easy to forget that we are all 'guests' who Chris Ingersoll is gracious enough to host. We as posters are 'entitled' to nothing. It's admirable that he continues to maintain this outlet for a hobby he really doesn't have much interest in anymore. That he has to deal with his name being attached to a message board where adults can be found calling each other 'gay', hurling obtuse racial and geographic slurs and posting commentary that would easily embarrass him by association with any professional or social contact he knows is burden enough. That he willingly assumes this burden with little to no return on his time and patience is beyond admirable. I know I wouldn't put up with it.
From what I've seen Holland has also developed a very fine CotG related board over the course of time. It went through it's growing pains but has evolved into a very positive and productive online presence that is distinct from this one and serves it's own distinct purpose. Both of these guys deserve appreciation for performing a thankless task.
The CotG online community is fairly small. There's little growth spurts and drop outs here and there...but for the most part it's the same people...year after year...engaging the same recurring issues and topics with only small variations on recurring themes. Ideally as time moves on contributions are made that help to 'elevate' the content for as many people as possible...with each poster having to decide for themselves what path that takes.
I've interacted with posters like Payback, Joe and mft for years. I can say without question that each in their own way have at times been very substantive contributors to a hobby we all share. Hopefully that can take precedence going forward in the broader interest of why these CotG outlets came to exist in the first place.
