aka the Crocodile Hunter was killed while filming stingrays. A stingray's barb hit him through the chest.
Damn, I always I liked that guy. He was really wacky, but he did not care.I always have thought that he was going to get it one of these days, playing so close to the animals like he did, but I never thought it would really happen.
Regards to his wife and family.
RIP

You knew something like this was going to happen sooner or later...
I enjoyed the guy and his show and I feel bad that he leaves behind two young kids...
I read it is very rare to be killed by a sting ray, which makes the whole thing even more strange.

My little boy loved watching the crocodile hunter and even made me take him to see the movie when it came out. I'm saddened by the news and wish his family the best.

It's kind of like when Atkins died from a heart attack. He had it coming. I'm sorry that he died, and I enjoyed his show, but it's the truth.

I go to sleep early (I work overnights) and when I wake up this is the news I first see...darn. I'm very sad about this. The Croc Hunter was always one of my favorite shows when it debued and still is today. He did great things for conservation and animal protection. And on top of that he loved reptiles and I, for one, can't not like a guy who loves reptiles. Anyway, I will miss Steve Irwin, and personally I will call this a freak accident and not "what he had coming." Big Time

I wouldn't say he had it coming either. It's a shock but it doesn't suprise me that he would go working with animals.... but not like this. From what I heard, he wasn't even messing with the stingray, he was talking about coral. It was a freak accident that really could have happened to anybody. Heard about this last night in a chat, a regular heard it on Australian news and came in to tell us. Our first thought was that the chatter was screwing around but within a half hour it was all over the net. Bad news.

After he died I believe they found that he had a very bad heart and clogged arteries or something... the Adkins diet is crap. Plain and simple it is very dangerous, very unhealthy, and a very stupid thing to do to your body. I kind of think the guy was an idiot.

Yep...stingray venom alone usually isn't going to kill you unless you completely ignore it. Odd thing is stingrays usually only use venom as a last resort. Their first instinct is to swim away.
Irwin got it right through the heart.
I don't agree with some of the things he did (feeding a crocodile with one hand while holding his infant son with the other), and sometimes his persona was annoying (I often thought his accent was overexaggerated for effect). However, he was a tireless conservationist and tried to use his programming to educate people in an age of junk-TV. For that, he'll be missed.

I've had multiple discussions about Steve Irwin's passing already...It is indeed simply bad luck that he died this way...Apparently, he wasn't even doing anything out of standard practice for interacting with a Stingray (though I could have been mislead)...From where he got hit, pretty much 2 inches in any direction and he'd have (most likely) lived...
By comparison, he's recovered from far more dangerous attacks than that of a Stingray, this one just hit him in precisely the right spot to kill him...
Some Aussie's I play City of Heroes with were making jokes about it...Apparently, it's allowed (encouraged?) with them...Sort of a celebratory thing I suppose...however respectful it may have been for them, I couldn't bring myself to partake of course...It's sad, and he, and his many wildlife contributions will be missed...

When you mess with stingrays eventually you'll get stung. I too figured he'd go out in an animal attack, but thought it would be a gator. From one animal lover to another God Bless and thanks for all the great fun and education that you brought from the animal kingdom. May your soul rest in the great big outdoors in the sky.

Sad to see him go but when you live life perpetually on the edge, I can't say it was a total shock.
I feel for his 2 children, now fatherless.
I'm sure he had some life insurance so I think his family will be ok , monetarily.
I liked his TV shows and miss his wacky antics.
