The cost of the ST season sets is absurd. Paramount and the people behind Trek know that they have one of the most rabidly loyal fanbases in history. They know that many of the fans will pay whatever they ask, just to have their favorite Trek shows in their DVD library. And so, being the wonderful capitalists they are, Paramount is fleecing the fans. And for the most part, the fans are paying the price. Can't blame Paramount. I'd probably do the same thing.
But I won't pay $100.00 or more for a single season of anything on DVD. My wallet closes on any price above $60. I was able to buy the X-Files season sets for $59.99 each, and there's no reason TNG, DS9, or the other Trek's should be double that (other than corporate greed).
I mentioned this at a Star Trek board, and most of the posters were mystified as to why I thought $100 (and more) was too expensive. Just shows what Trek sheep they are, IMO.

I just purchased the 1st season of TNG for $50 so at least the price has been cut in half! I do agree with the last poster $100 for any dvd set is not worth it! its stupid!

Paramount debuted the initial artwork for the new Star Trek movie coming in 2008. It's the old arrowhead insignia of James Kirk's Enterprise, flanked on either side by gold (Kirk's command tunic color) and blue (Spock & McCoy's science tunic color). Which just about confirms fan speculation that the film will be about young Kirk and Spock during their days at the Academy.
Except, I think it's a great big swerve.
I'm not sure what Paramount is up to. But I doubt they would spill the beans on it so early into production (or pre-production).
Besides, who could replace Shatner, Nimoy, and DeForest Kelley?

I was fortunate enough that my mother was useful enough to Columbia House to get all seven seasons from the company store for me from the company store before she retired. Some of my cases are slightly banged up, but the whole set cost $49, so I won't complain.

Back in the 1950s and 60s my dad was a limo driver in San Francisco. He made friends with tons of professional athlets on the Giants and 49ers, and some of the teams that regularly visited SF. Years later, he'd get tons of free tix in the mail for 49er games and Giants games. And he usually asked me along. The best time was in '86. He got two (nosebleed) seats (nosebleed section, but they were free) to the Superbowl in New Orleans. Bears - Patriots. And I wore my Patriots jersey.... Of course the Pats got annihilated.
