The WWE hits another one out of the park. This DVD is fantastic, and it's only $20.00 at Best Buy and Wal-Mart.
One of my all-time favorite Dusty matches - he and Sting versus a heeled out Road Warriors - is on here, as are numerous interviews and stories of the American Dream. There's a totla of 15 matches and God knows how many interviews and soundbites.
This is a bit of nostalgia and nirvana. Go get it!!

I bought this set the day it came out. The American Dream is one of my all time favorite wrestlers.
The match selection was excellent. But I was disappointed with the Dusty Rhodes story itself. They breezed over Dusty's feud with Ric Flair and never even mentioned the Four Horsemen. But yet they spent a LOT of time talking about Dusty's polka dotted outfit in the WWF. The Dusty Rhodes/4 Horsemen feud is one of the greatest feuds in the history of wrestling and deserved to be mentioned. Also, I would have liked to see them mention Magnum T.A.'s car accident and the pairing of Dusty and Nikita Koloff as a tribute to Magnum. They really seemed to downplay his time in the NWA, really only focusing on Dusty as the booker. But Dusty's tenure in the NWA is what I remember most about The American Dream, not the Polka Dot wearing Dusty.
They did do an excellent job recapping his relationship with Dustin.

It's a not-so-well kept secret that the WWE is planning a Four Horsemen box set (and Hart Family and DX boxes as well), and a lot of that feud has either been covered in Flair's original collection or will be covered in the upcoming Horsemen set. I agree that they probably shuold've added more here, but I understand their need to save the "good stuff" in this case.

I cannot wait to see the DVD. I have always been a huge fan of Dusty's. Think about this aspect - an overweight guy with a speech impediment became one of the greatest talents in wrestling history. If that is not a testiment to his ability to work in and out of the ring, I can't really tell you anything else. His charisma is off the charts, and he ALWAYS delivered at any show he was part of!

My DVD case does not talk! There was no mention of the whole Rhodes/Nikita run which I felt was important as it was one of my favorite Dusty runs was his feuds with Nikita then teamed with him as part of the Super Powers. I would have rather had that then the Polka Dot crap! I always hated that gimmick and tried to forget it..until it showed up. And the little box clip of Masters trying to sing the American Dream tune was totally not needed and was really dumb. But other than that great set! Would have been an even better set had the inclusion of his work in NWA as oppose to just mentioning his booking duties but what can you do?

Earlier today I unexpectedly got a package in the mail. For my birthday which happened earlier this week, somebody as a surprise bought and sent me the DVDs for "Wrestlemania 22", "The World's Greatest Managers", and "The Dusty Rhodes Story." The Dusty Rhodes DVD does indeed talk. It was the DVD placed on top inside the package and, as I was opening the postage box, I apparently hit the button and I suddenly heard Rhodes say the quote that inlcuded the phrase "I'll break your back and make your liver quiver." I look forward to watching these DVDs this weekend.

I got the dvd also....and it talks. At least, at the moment. My boys keep pushing the button over and over again. I am sure the battery will soon die.
Anyways....I really really like it. Some great matches, interviews...really liked the documentary. Probably the best I have seen so far (I have not seen the Undertaker's or Roberts, which I am told are excellent).
On a bad note, though....Crockett is strangely missing from the commentary on the matches that he should have been part of. He is there on some of the promo clips, but nothing of him doing commentary. Instead, it is Rhodes, Mike Graham (I think), and some other guy, usually.
Other than that, the dvd set is great

Maybe the talking cases are a special box available only at a certain retailer, like Wal-Mart or FYE.

Sounds good but did anyone pick up the Managers dvd? A colleague of mine picked up the DVD and was disappointed with it. He said it was too much kayfabe and not enough human interest angles or good matches.

Although I got the Dusty Rhodes DVD set back in June, I did not get a chance to watch it until this weekend because I was on the road for the majority of the summer. I really liked getting the chance to see him team with Dick Murdoch in the AWA and his bullrope match against Superstar Billy Graham because I had not seen those matches before. The DVD also has lots of great interviews (although some of them like the "hard times" one I already had from the Ric Flair DVD set).
However, I do wish that there had been more time spent talking about Rhodes' time working for Crockett because the DVD left out things such as the Four Horsemen breaking his leg and, as others have mentioned, his teaming up with Nikita Koloff (all they did was show an add of him and Nikita winning the Crockett Cup). I also thought that one whole disc about his time in the WWF was too much. But I can understand it since the WWE produced the DVD.
Although I overall enjoyed it, I personally would rate the Dusty Rhodes DVD set below the recent DVDs of Ric Flair, Bret Hart, and the Road Warriors.
