It took me a long time to get this game. I have always looked at it in the store....read reviews....but I just could never bring myself to spend the money.
A friend of mine bought it a few months ago...so I asked him if I could borrow it, and check it out. It only took me 20 minutes to realize that I wanted my own copy of the game!!
I then went out last night, and bought it.
Really, there is just something about this game that I cannot put my finger on....The game is so addictive!! I start playing it, thinking I will only play for maybe an hour at the most....then 3 hours later, several ships sacked, sunk or sold....I am forcing myself to back away from the computer...only to find myself once again at the desk playing a pirate.
The game has CHARM. All the pieces work and fit together to make one polished and nicely done package. The sword fights, the sea battles, the dances (although, I still have a difficult time with this)....they all "fit".
Just a fun game...and it is a game that even my wife is interested in playing!!

I've never even heard of this game, but I am a big fan of the Pirates of the Carribean franchise. Is this game anything like the movies?

well...yes....but no....but yes....but no....
The game has CHARM....really, that is the drawing factor for me...what keeps me coming back for more.
There are sword fights, there is ship to ship battles on the seas....there is raiding of the towns....there is piracy....there is romancing the different governer's daughters....there is bad guys....there is buried treasures to find....towns to sneak in (and out of)....there is fighting other pirates....
There is just so much IN the game....but yet, it is VERY easily accessible.
So....I would say both yes and no. Does it have undead pirates and Davy Jones? no....but it does have the charm of that movie

I played the original version of this game WAAAAAY back in the day (about 1993-4, I think). The best part about the newer version is that it keeps all of the charm and playability while updating it for current gaming standards. I haven't played it in a while, but this might inspire me to load it up again!

The original Pirates! (I had it for the Mac) remains one of my all-time favorites. Just a flat-out entertaining format. They came out with Pirates! Gold years later, which I thought was taking the original game, making it pretty, but funking up the gameplay.
But I got the remake for Xbox last year and it's a great little homage to the original. Very addicting.....simple at its core, but one of the most fun games i've played in awhile.

I got the game and loaded it into my computer(after I had to buy new software for it) and had a prety good time playing it(the dances wee Murder on you to try and complete-even on amateur) but the rest was pretty fun. My best run-I got rid of all but one of the Piartes who wee in competion with me. I had found quite a few family memebrs-not all but I was never able to find the first hidden city.

I love this game! I remember starting out by trying to trade and making zilch. Then the bar maid told me about the Spainsh Treasure Fleet, and I attacked it.
I can imagine some guy who makes his living by trading, pulling into port in his little dingy, all proud that he made 400 gold this past month. Then, here comes Captain Magnus and his ship, The Vortex, A huge frigate, pulling in, and Magnus cashing in the 4000 gold he made last week!
So what's everyone's preference; bar maids or governors' daughters? I prefer the bar maids. Better infomoration for less work. They're better looking too.
Take care,
Jay

I played this game in college back around the late '80s. It was a totally addictive game. My best friend and his roommate played in shifts while one slept then made the tag.

Oh. Techmo Bowl. Now there's a game you could spend hours on. Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen. That's a dangerous combination.

Oh. Techmo Bowl. Now there's a game you could spend hours on. Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen. That's a dangerous combination. THE MAN. The most fun I had with tecmo bowl was using average players to break records. I remember one season I had 130 touchdowns with brad muster of the chicago bears. Both Pirates and Tecmo Bowl were simple and fun at the same time. I'd take Tecmo over Madden any day
