Still waiting for my CS starter, but I got a ROTS starter today and 3 Champions boosters. I also found that I had 3 elite stormtroopers from RS that I got at San Deigo ComicCon 2 years ago. I got Jacen Solo, Jaina Solo, and Darth Maul in my Champions so I was pretty happy. I have a case of Champions coming soon and can't wait!!
Anyways I had a question for you guys, Can you actually even use Darth Bane or Exar Kun and be competitive? With costs of 82 and 84 it looks kinda tough to make a good squad. I'm reading Darth Bane right now, and Exar Kun has been one of my favorites for a long while. Thanks again guys!!

Darth Bane moreso than Kun, but he is not far behind. Bane does 30 dam, +10 with Sith Rage. +10 Jedi Hunter, and Double Attack and that makes a potential 100 damage a round without crits. Not too many figues are going to last too long. And Bane has 200 hp! Kun has a +19 attack. essentially, unless he rolls a "1" he will hit. And he has triple attack!

Bane is just good, one the best beatsticks around. In any capactiy he is a top tier figure. Can he be beaten? Sure, but it will be very hard to do for most any squad (even Thrawn/ Mas/ Vader squads)
Kun really shines with his CE. By giving Savage characters Jedi Hunter and Momentum, you are takinga triple attacking ackly or a charing reek and making the one hit demolition sqauds. An expensive force, and maybe not a world champ, but fun to use and dangerous to play against.
But, Drago, I suggest you get the Mandalorians. Any and all of them. They are a faction built on synergy, and have been competative against some the best teams out there. And if you absoluely need a lighsaber in the group, Ulic Qel Droma can be included with them. The sculpts are cool too!

Or, instead of teaming Exar Kun with a 49 pt Acklay with three 30 dmg attacks (+12 to hit Force users), go for two 22 pt Gundarks for a total of Eight 20 damage attacks (+16 to hit Force users)...

That is even better, considering you do not have to worry about base size with the Gundarks. Good jorb on the Maul. He is my favorite of the three Maul pieces, mainly because of the defensive force powers.

My current piece of love is Bastila Shan from Champions. Love her. Love the whole old republic faction.

OK I'm a bit confused. The squad limit is 100 right? Or is that just in the book for quick play and competitive has a higher limit? Exar with 2 gundarks would be 128 pts correct? Again, thanks for helping out the noob.

From what I understand there are two or three "levels" of squad building: 100pt 200 pt and 300 pt...I know there are 200 pt tournaments because I read a lot of people complaining about how unplayable the AT-AT was...And I know there are 300 pt because people were saying in response that AT-AT isn't playable in 200 pt squads since it's 200 pts, but it is great in 300 pt squads where you have support for it... So, Exar isn't that great in 100 pts, but in 200 pts, you have Exar, some Gundarks, maybe a Yong Krayt Dragon, and some shooty guys....And don't forget your Ewok to use his Transfer Force ability (the Ewok dies, and Exar appears where the Ewok was)...

Splattercat, I'm going to just be playing against my friend Travis for awhile until I get the hang of a few things, what size squad do you recommend for just friendly games? There's only one store in my area that does competitive play so I'm going to go there a few times and check out how other people play(scout the metagame) before I start playing against more regular players.

100 points is a nice place to start I would think....
As I mentioned we bought them for use with the (WEG) RPG, so I haven't played outside of my own home at all...

Drago Rahl, and not to step on Splatts toes, but I honestly think 150 or 200 pts is the best way to play with friends. With these totals, you can fit the higher costed figs in your army without having to sacrifice too much. You can try out your Bane, Kun and Vader JH, and still have enough room to provide those guys with useful support. Of the two, I'd go with 150.
ANd I really want to say that, while getting the figs you want in your boosters is great, this does not always happen. However, through trading figs online, I have been able to accumulate several hard to get pieces. Sometimes you have to give a little to get a little, but for the most part, trading ha been so much more worthwhile than getting boosters with countless repeats.

I've been playing TCG's enough to know that I won't get everything from boosters. If there are minis I really want that I don't get I'll just do what I do with card games and sell off my rares I don't want or have extra's of on ebay. Then use that money to purchase the mini's. Ow, my freakin' toes..!! Hehe...Anyway, Turkish knows better about the gaming end than I...Normally I'm a tactical genius and all that, but I really haven't been in touch with the competitive end of the Mini's game...I'll advise where I can, but Turkish's word on organized play and squad building and such carries more weight than mine...

Well, after having played with her last night, I have a new favorite piece from Bounty Hunters. . . Princess Leia, Hoth Commander. I had a seemingly endless waive of Rebel Pilots and Heavy Troopers thanks to re commander effect. As long as the dice don't turn on you she is freakin' sweet!

So far from the guys I have Darth Maul, Champion of the Sith is my favorite. He just goes around slaughtering people. I'm probably going to go pick up some Bounty Hunters later today.

That Maul is awesome.
I have Leia, but have not used her. Rebels are not too strong, but are fun to play.
