Cynthia.... I checked out Twilight Imperium.....wow. I would love to have that....just to say I have it. Maybe come tax time. But, the only problem is, I don't have very many ppl that plays these games. Surprisingly my wife actually likes Heroscape.... Yep, Twilight Imperium rocks my world. It's a grand way to spend 3-5 hours. It's pretty nifty. I played it twice and had fun. I still feel 2210 A.D. is superior, but that may just be me. Heroscape is a gem. It truly is.

If you like Twilight Imperium, check out DESCENT; JOURNEY INTO DARKNESS. Now this is an awesome board game (from the same people that brought you Twilight Imperium). I'm planning to purchase this with my income tax money.

My favorite board game is Clue. A lot of fun with a touch of strategy. Plus, the more people that play, the more fun the game!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like you need to gear towards simplier games to make the family interested. Hopefully you can then start working them into what else is out there. Settlers of Catan: By far the most family friendly and popular game at my house and with friends, especially with Seafarers attached to it. www.boardgamegeek.com/game/13Carcassonne: Is popular with the family and friends, not really my favorite, but is not intimadating by any means. www.boardgamegeek.com/game/822Ticket to Ride: Fun train track building game that is very simple. Generally a hit or miss type, but I love it. www.boardgamegeek.com/game/9209 Betrayal at House on the Hill: Incredibly fun and different experience of a game. Probably a little intimadating at first and I'd recommend easing a player into it. www.boardgamegeek.com/game/10547Puerto Rico: Brilliant design with multiple strategies to win. Probably not best to start with, but if SoC takes off this is the next evolutionary step. www.boardgamegeek.com/game/3076boardgamegeek is a great site to surf and do sorts by genres and designers if you start to get favorite, e.g. Reiner Knizia as I'm a big Auction style fan as it keeps the table involved all the time. This is only a simple flavor of board games. If you start getting into card games like Lost Cities, Coloretto, Wings of War, Modern Art, Poker, etc. there's a tremendous amount of GREAT games out there outside of the mainstream.

Mythical, sorry for the delayed response. Descent is a dungeon crawler that incorporates the Doom boardgame rules. Almost a decade ago, I played a game called HEROQUEST pretty regularly. Players could set up the dungeon however they wanted, and expansions gave you a lot of options in terms of players, monsters and traps. Descent takes this concept and fully realizes it. Fully customizable dungeons, a variety of monsters and demons the likes of which you haven't seen since opening the D&D Monstrous Manual, a variety of choices with each turn that rewards smart decision making and challenges you at every turn.
I'm not sure if I'm nailing it here, so I suggest you check that link I provided earlier in this thread. I'll simply say that it's an amazing mix of D&D, HEROQUEST and DOOM that's pretty simple to pick up and pretty hard to stop playing. It's also on that $80.00 pricetag list, so be prepared to part with cash. For the record, I've always said I would NEVER pay more than $40.00 for a board / table-top game (this is why I never got into Warhammer), but after playing this, I think I would've purchased it for $100.00 and not batted an eyelash.

Heroquest was a great game! I have some good memories of it.
If you can get a copy it is a good time.

I placed orders for Zombies and Betrayal...Mainly, I just wanted a game or two that interest me, and I have a shot at convincing someone else to atleast try.
Hopefully I CAN find people to play these...or I guess I'll be trying to play some solo games, whoo.
