I don't know. I have been to the site a couple times, but only at the height of their hating stage.
I noticed that many of the forum members seem nearly identical to one another. I wonder how many of them are the same person.

No I haven't purchased the game but I at one point intended to after the first of the year. I may still but I'm not really too sure. I have had the same thoughts that have been spoken that some of the people on the forum may have been "manufactured" ... I could be totally wrong but I have had some suspicions of that.
I'm not sure when the thread was originally posted, Chris, because I had not been over there for about 3 days. I stopped by there and saw the thread where some guy named Sandman was making fun of Tom.... I responded to it rather harshly, and the next time I visited the forum the thread had been removed.

I'm convinced many, if not all, of the posters are manufactured fans.
For one, some of the people were going apeshit over the game before it had been released. I might hear 30 seconds of a Jay-Z song and claim it to be great before buying the album, but I can't imagine seeing a couple pics of generic wrestlers with generic names and exclaiming it to be the "greatest wrestling game I've ever seen. Oh, by the way, how does it play?"
Secondly, there are the people who actually play the game. They all sound similar, except for the guys who sound like they're playing characters. I remember seeing one post by a guy who said he played for eight straight hours or something like that and couldn't wait to get back. True enough, I have spent a lot of time in the course of the day with COTG, but that was on three feds and involved a lot of typing and writing. This guy threw dice on 24 guys for an entire works shift. I'm not buying it.
Third, and perhaps most telling, is the thread dealing with worst games. It is impossible for members of the board to vote, but the only person who mentioned this to the mod was Chris, I believe. Even then, nothing was done, and no one mentioned it again, to my knowledge.
Wrestling Wars is a joke. I don't necessarily mean the game itself, because I have not played it. I mean the company. The creators behind the company seem to be complete morons. They have no idea about how to market their game, and I am quite sure that the venture is not proving all that successful, as I am guessing that many of WW's "fans" are simply discussion board fabrications of the creators themselves.

I don't think they're ALL manufactured... there may in fact be a lot of people out there who are playing the game, but just not many of them that are posting on the forum. I wouldn't doubt that there are a few manufactured forum personalities just to make it look a little busier and hype the game. My suspicions come from the same things you just identified... the fact that some guys are going so crazy over the game and hyping it in a testimonial fashion. It's possible that these are real guys, but they sound to me like they might be buddies with the creator and were encouraged to make those statements. Which again, there's nothing wrong with that if they really do love the game... but some of it sounds forced.
I would have to agree that even if the game is amazing, the marketing of it is WAY off. I personally sent a private message to the board administrator explaining that if they wanted people to try the game, attacking Tom Filsinger's game was the wrong move. I don't understand why they'd want to set themselves up as an adversary and slap all the COTG fans in the face as a marketing plan. It just doesn't make any sense.
I really feel from talking to the game creator that he is an intelligent and friendly guy who really believes in his product. I had hope that their strategy for marketing the game would change after the negative backlash...but so far it hasn't. I don't necessarily agree with some that the game is a ripoff... but what I do agree about is that the marketing of it has been a total turn-off.

Okay, I have been on their forums and still am, yes under a different name. Here' s a PM I just read and what it says makes me really hesitant now to buy their game and I had been considering it. Here's the one line that tells me a lot.
<<<I can't tell ya how good it is till you play it. >>>
Umkay.......
