AJ Tries To Contact Christian

I got a laugh out of this.

Late Friday night, "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles contacted TNAwrestling.com with a statement regarding his former mentor, "The Instant Classic" Christian Cage.

According to Styles, he has attempted to contact Cage since Thursday's "IMPACT!" broadcast. However, "The Instant Classic" is apparently ignoring AJ's calls. As a result, Styles has asked us to post this statement in the hopes that Cage will read it before Thursday's broadcast:

Dear Boss,

I'm pretty sure you're upset with me. I tried to get in touch with you all day on Friday, but you won't return my calls or text messages. You blocked me on AOL Instant Messenger and won't reply to my Facebook pokes. Heck, I even tried sending you a game invite when I saw you playing Halo 3 online, but you ignored that too. I would have let you frag me with sticky grenades as much as you wanted if it made you feel better. You know, just like old times!

Now, I can understand why you're mad at me after what happened on "iMPACT!" (you know, me accidentally winning the match when you had Jay Lethal beat). But hey, I paid for it in the end, right? I was the one who had to put on that ridiculous turkey outfit. Plus, I'm not sure if you're mad at me for not inviting you to Kurt's Thanksgiving dinner, but I made him promise me that he sent you an invitation. I'm not sure if it got lost or not, but I guess I should have just invited you in person.

I'm also really starting to get the feeling that you're mad at me for supposedly turning my back on you and joining Kurt Angle. But please believe me when I tell you it's all been a huge misunderstanding. When you made me the Captain of the Coalition, I knew I had to do all I could to help our team. That's why I talked to Karen Angle and figured out a way that BOTH sides could work together as an unstoppable unit. Can you imagine me, Tomko, you and Kurt as a team? Who could beat us? Tomko seems to think there's some heat between you and Kurt, but I'm not buying it. I even asked Kurt about it and he just rolled his eyes and walked away, so I know it can't be true!

Christian - I still consider you my close friend. My teacher. My mentor. I would never try to ruin that for anything. So this Thursday night on "iMPACT!", I have a plan that will put all these hard feelings behind us. I've requested interview time on Thursday to explain my idea - all I ask if that you hear me out and give it a chance. I think after Thursday, we'll all be one big happy family again!

I didn't want to post this on the internet for everyone to read, but it's the only way I knew to get my message to you.

See you on Thursday night, Boss. I'll have my cell phone close by in case you want to talk.

PS - Please accept my Halo 3 invite next time you're online. I miss having you on my team and Tomko sucks at it...he keeps killing me with friendly fire - most of the time I think he's doing it on purpose.

I've liked AJ ever since I started watching TNA, but he really made the turkey suit (which I thought was a stupid idea) actually work. Within recent months, I've also found myself starting to like Tomko, for some reason, when before I simply felt indifferent about the big guy.

Anyhow, this rules.

This is a funny skit. However, since day 1, AJ is the wrong guy for this skit. This kind of crap should have been done to Eric Young. I really think they could have given a better role for AJ Styles, especially how hard he's been pushed in the past.

If this eventually gets AJ Styles a push where he turns on Christian Cage, I guess it's okay, but that's still stretching it. Personally, I would have done something a little bit more similar to the way Batista eventually turned on Triple H in the Evolution days. Its one thing to have Cage and / or Angle help push him by being a respectable lackey that may eventually turn on one of them. However, this crap with him wearing a turkey-suit, and begging for attention from Christian needs to stop. It's making me sick.

I have to disagree. I think this is an awesome role for Styles, and it's going to show he actually has some personality. He's always been sweet in the ring, and it's refreshing to see he's capable of so much more. Styles is still young and has plenty of time to become the serious contender he was... this is a great exercise and I think it's paying off big time.

I understand what you're saying, and in a sense I agree that it's important to put AJ in a role that shows he has character. With that said, does he seriously have to wear a turkey suit to show this? I didn't mind him being a cocky heel, or even do something amusing, ie - wearing his highschool wrestling singlet and head gear so he can challenge Scott Steiner to a takedown contest. Between the turkey suit and offering Christian to drop a sticky granade on him...

When people go on tangents about "Vince is the devil," and then when called on it they reply, "I just don't drink his kool-aid," or, "Just because I'm not one of his sheep doesn't mean I hate him," this topic should be brought up.

After watching the last few weeks of Impact, the common feeling I have after every show is thinking how much of a shame the handling of AJ Styles really is. In 2002 and 2003, the primary reason TNA sold any of their weekly PPVs was because word was getting out that they had this guy (Styles) who was probably pound-for-pound the best guy working in the United States. Styles gave the company a shred of credibility, and made, his segments, at least, must-see TV for wrestling fans.

And the higher-ups repay his loyalty and service by putting him in a turkey suit and making him somebody's lackey.

If VInce had come up with the idea of taking a proven talent and relegating him to role of class clown, allowing him to get beaten or beat up every time he is in the ring and giving him a "mentor," even though he has already proven himself to be among the top stars in the business, people would be all over McMahon. They would say he stuck the guy with a gimmick that is among the worst ever seen in the annals of pro wrestling.

Check the thread about worst gimmicks and see how often Terry Taylor comes up. Trust me, Styles' current gimmick is just as demeaning, if not moreso due to the fact that Styles has been with TNA since its inception and turned down offers from WWE to stay with the company.

I think there have been plenty of posts in this discussion board from TNA fans lamenting that their homegrown talent isn't been used... no one is going to dispute that.

I agree to a large extent that AJ has taken a pretty big step back with this stuff, but it IS true that its helping his mic work (or perhaps, just showcasing it) and it could be a nice angle down the road if Christian puts him over.

It could be worse...look at Christopher Daniels, or Jay Lethal... or even worse, Petey Williams.

Jay Lethal really doesn't have it so bad. Sure he looks like the Macho Man, but emulating a legend isn't so bad, especially if you get to have a clean victory over Kurt Angle for the X Division Title. It beats jobbing out and wearing a Turkey suit.

If you're going to have Styles be someone's lackey, don't humiliate his character. Have him play a similar roll Orton played during the Evolution days. He could help Christian (or Angle) hold the title, but will fight the top guys and win over a few big names to give him more credibility. Would it kill Sting to put him over?
