Wow -- now I'm being insulted. This is great. Welcome to the TNA forum, Chang. We welcome your input as long as we agree with it. If not -- we'll twist your words around in a way that makes you sound like a crackhead. We'll put a magnifying glass to every minor point that you make and if we don't agree we'll pick it to pieces. I'll conclude by reiterating that you have missed my point and you've turned what I said into something I didn't say. This topic has gone from being about ECW to being about the XFL because you somehow have decided that I insinuated that a famous sportswriter claimed the XFL would overtake the NFL -- which they did not, to my knowledge. The statement was that I've heard intelligent and well known people who held that belief -- which does not necessarily constitute ESPN Sportscenter calibur. There are local sports radio shows which are hosted by persons you've probably never heard of -- with guests/analysts you might not necessarily recognize -- but are well known to their particular audience. There are also newspapers other than the New York Times with sports sections and columnists who I'm betting you've not read, but are never the less considered knowledgable in their field. To claim that not a single person on Earth ever made this bold prediction seems pretty outrageous. To ask me to prove it is the equivalent of asking me to go to my local library and search newspapers from 10 years ago to find someone who predicted that the Browns would go to the playoffs. I'm not going to do that -- so if that makes me a liar then so be it. Farewell. Meh...I said right off the bat that I agree with a lot of what you said in your initial post. I just argued with your assertion that anyone 'well known and inteligent' predicted the XFL thing. . To me, 'well known and inteligent' means someone you'd remember and/or with some kind of national exposure - the AP is a national newswire, not just out of New York - or at least you could say, "oh, it was on a radio station here in my home town" or "it was a columnist in the local paper." Something. Call me crazy, but when people say something nutty, I ask for a source. I publicly apologize if you feel attacked or whatever, but I honestly do believe you heard that somewhere, but when you realized that the source for this prediction was pretty unreliable, and that the XFL overtaking the NFL sounded - sorry to be blunt - stupid, you just backtracked. Feel free to visit all the forums, I certainly don't want you to leave TNA because of me, but I am aollowed to ask people to back up their statements. I think that's reasonable.

You guys have been arguing about this longer than the XFL was actually around!

this is an exerpt from a recent article at www.wrestlingobserver.com concerning the re-birth of ECW, and the subsequent suckiness of TNA... it's dead-on... ...I think bringing it back will turn out to be one of Vince McMahon’s greatest business decisions, and it’s one he can’t really lose on. If it falls apart, and doesn’t end making any money, WWE will still own the rights to the ECW name. It will be another failed business venture from Vince McMahon, but it won’t cost the company in the long run, because ECW is a name they will be able to market for many years to come. They will easily make back whatever money they might lose in the deal. This is a big risk by Vince, there is no doubt about it. But it’s one that if it’s successful, we could be referring to 2006 as the year when Vince McMahon and WWE woke up from their slumber, and got back in the wrestling game. And that is not good news for their closest competition TNA... TNA has fashioned themselves as the alternative to WWE, as the new wave of what’s popular in professional wrestling, and they present a lot of action that is very different to anything in WWE. You won’t see anyone like Samoa Joe in WWE, there is nobody as well rounded as AJ Styles in WWE...But they don’t focus on those guys.... Instead they bring back worthless, washed up, has beens like Lex Luger, Buff Bagwell, Scott Steiner, and Rick Steiner. That is the biggest sign that the people in charge at TNA really have no clue what they’re doing, and to me it’s a miracle the company is even still in business with bad decisions like that being made... All the **** matches in the world don’t make the company one cent if they are not capitalized on right. Instead it’s WWE presenting what’s hot in 2006, and that’s ECW. There is more buzz among the wrestling community about the return of ECW then there has been for anything in quite a long time. Whether people are for or against the return, the bottom line is they are talking about Vince McMahon’s wrestling... ...Meanwhile on Spike TV on Thursday nights you can see reruns of WCW Thunder from 2000. Nothing at all cutting edge about that. ECW > TNA

Swarm, I haven't read all six pages of this, but if you ask me the "End of TNA" is the addition of Lex Luger, Buff Bagwell and Rick Steiner, AND the re-emergence of Kevin Nash. Let's see . . . if it didn't work for WCW when wrestling was BIG, how does this roster help now?
Worse, rumor has it that Christian is about to drop the belt to Abyss so that Sting can relive his feud with Vader vicariously and win the TNA title. Sorry Sting fans; big daddy Borden is noticably long in the tooth and not nearly as entertaining.
I think ECW is just as likely to suck as TNA does (lately - every time I come out in favor of TNA, the company does something stupid like hire the has-been cavalcade). Like it or not, a WWE ran ECW is NOT ECW, and the argument could be made (as it has been here on this thread) that ECW is being reborn as a form of TNA counter-programming.
Chang, I don't know you, and I agree that (some of) the guys are being a little stiff with you. I also agree that if you heard someone say the XFL was going to be bigger than the NFL, you should back it up. Aside from Dick Butkis (who was cashing XFL checks, if memory serves), I can't recall anyone who made such a claim, and I followed the emergence of the XFL (and the media's negative assault on it) pretty intently (Still got my HITMEN, ENFORCERS and OUTLAWS media guides and team hats).

Two things I learned from this thread -
1) There is never a day or chance where Vince doesn't want to take out Jeff Jarrett in any way shape or form.
2) People still get hung up on feuds with other posters. Remember kids - opinions are like KISS albums. Everyone has one, and they all suck! Chill out, have fun and try to smile when you're out there. Don't be so sullen.
(Yeah, but we're a sullen band, Ed!)

Sorry Sting fans; big daddy Borden is noticably long in the tooth and not nearly as entertaining. Christian needs to drop the belt because he's a joke as World Champion. The only thing in question is who he should drop it to. Personally, I am firmly in the camp that Joe should be the one to kill him, not Abyss...but anything that puts Christian back in his place as an upper midcard comedy act will work, I guess.

Tommy, are you sure we're not related?
I think Christian is a joke, and I'm praying Samoa Joe dismantles him and Jarrett. However, I think positioning Christian to get Abyss over - to get Sting over is as sad as it gets.
I can see it now; Christian drops the strap to Abyss, who goes on to interfere in Sting's feud with Jarrett. Sting wins the belt from Abyss in a match vastly similar to his King of Cable match with Vader. On the very same show, Lex Luger turns heel and aligns himself with Big Daddy Cool. The two go on a tear that leads to a Sting / Luger feud the likes of which we haven't seen . . . unless you watched the NWA or WCW TWO FREAKIN' DECADES AGO!!
I see the light now. Screw the young talent; push the old guard until they die!!

Here's how it works, though...
Abyss beats Christian and Sting/Mystery Partner beat Steiner/Jarrett. Next PPV, Abyss beats...say...Monty Brown while Sting beats Jarrett...Sting beats Abyss, comes face to face with Joe, who is the guy that takes the belt off Sting.
Then Joe's title win means even more than if he'd taken it off Christian...because he's beaten an 11 time (at that point) World champion.

Would be even better if that happends, if Sting beats Abyss...at the end of the PPV, Joe comes out to have a staredown with Sting. Just my opinion, but Christian's TNA stay so far has been a bust. I'm extremely disappointed in that because I thought he got a raw deal in the WWE. His reign has been worse than Jarrett's. But I love both Abyss and Joe. I really hope they stay in TNA, and they start pushing talent like them, rather than the Steiners, Nash, Lex...etc...(but only if that old talent puts the new talent over). Would just love to see AJ or Daniels get a big win over one of those guys or even Alex Shelly get a win over one of 'em, who has potential as well. Elix Skipper..please get him out of Diamonds in the Rough. No way he should be teaming with either of those two...Elix has too much talent for them.

I could crush Sting in a fight at this point in his career and i'm not even a wrestler. Beating Sting for anything means squat.

Yes, Swarm, we know...you can singlehandedly kill everything that moves. We got the memo already.
Seriously...that was the most pointlessly biased comment you've posted in a long time. Beating Sting for anything means squat? He's arguably, outside of possibly Joe himself, the most over guy in TNA and unbeaten in TNA himself. A well-booked Sting-Joe angle's one of the few hopes they have for a match that could both pop a buyrate and pass the "rub" onto a new star, since Sting's made damn sure that his booking since...2000 or so has protected him.

If I want to watch Sting, I'll put in a dvd. get him off my tv. he sucks. 2) I'm not dumb enough to think a guy like Joe couldn't kill a guy like Sting in about 2 minutes...so why the hell would I think it means anything? next your going to tell me that Joe's first title defense should be vs. Nash because Nash is "protected". give me a break.

Tommy - It's not so much that Sting can give you a rub, because he's not really been in TNA long enough to do that. It's not enough that you are a name to get a rub. You have to have history in the promotion for it to be truly effective. Why do you think Bret Hart failed to get over in WCW? While it's cool to have credibility, it can only help book a match. Time in your organization where you earned your credibility gives you the ability to help establish someone in that company. So, Sting vs. Samoa Joe could be a match with a good buy rate, but at best it could be a showcase for Samoa Joe to show off in front of new fans.
Swarm - I wouldn't go so far as to say Sting sucks. Asides from being a fellow brother in Christ, he is a known name to the general public, gets a good reaction, and is no more old or played out than half of the TNA roster. Don't hate just on Sting. Hate on TNA management for panicing during sweeps and calling in older stars to try and generate interest over giving talented youngers the time to become the new stars. Now THAT sucks!

I would go so far as to say Sting sucks at this point. In fact, I would have to say he sucked when they brought Sting in before for the tag match with Luger in which the two has-beens wrestled Styles and, I believe, Jarrett. That was especially successful because they spent that PPV and the one before it talking about how Styles wasn't in the class of those two.
At this point, it wouldn't matter who Samoa Joe takes the belt from. One, because there is really not a guy on the roster who is going to give him a "rub." The best "rub" he can get is TNA finally producing a consistently good product that draws semi-decent ratings and those new viewers seeing him as the program's dominant force.

Having seen Sting Borden on "The Greatest Damn Sport Show Period" recently he said that he had been in talks with Vince about coming to WWE but didn't want to work the travel schedule because it's so rigorous.
He said he'd rather be in Orlando twice a month to tape the iMPACT! show.
Ok, fair enough, but this goes to show you that Ric Flair who's about 10 yrs. older than Borden, can still work the WWE schedule. This shows you that Flair's love of wrestling is far greater than Sting's.
And looking back, Sting wouldn't have been able to make it in WWE for very long because it looks like he's just going through the motions in TNA. His once bright charisma isn't coming through.
And his ring skills have severely diminished.

Ok, fair enough, but this goes to show you that Ric Flair who's about 10 yrs. older than Borden, can still work the WWE schedule. This shows you that Flair's love of wrestling is far greater than Sting's. Yeah, either that or Flair HAS top work to pay off the incredible amount of money he owes in child support, to his ex-wives in alimony, and to the IRS for all his back taxes. Plus his attorney fees for that road rage incident which may or may not have violated his probabtion, depending on who you believe. If you've read any of the stories regarding his personal life, Flair is in deep trouble outside of the ring and his WWE paycheck is the only thing keeping him afloat; much like Mike Tyson, Ric's personal excesse have cost him any saving he should've had from his lucrative pro career. So I don't think it's really fair to question Sting's desire in comparison to Ric. There's a pretty good chance Flair would've retired or become a semiregular like Foley if only he could afford to.
