That was me. And I don't mean any disrespect to him, or any ROH fans. I actually like the little bit of ROH I've watched over the years. But I don't like Morishima at all.

Fair enough. I haven't seen much of Morishima in action but I hear his style is a lot like Terry Gordy's (correct name?).

I think Morishima is awesome. A very brutal big man.

I just got done watching this ppv (yeah I'm behind sue me), and I thought it was awesome. I haven't seen alot of these guys, so it was a real treat for me to see Bryan Danielson and the Briscoes. I am getting their next one, the fact that it's taped is irrelevant to me.

Welcome aboard, Euritar! I watched the PPV tonight. The matches were strong and they did a nice job introducing the characters. The production quality was definitely a notch below Vince, and I thought the PPV looked "low budget" as a result. But the guys worked their tails off and gave the fans a great show. As I posted on the WWE side, ROH is much better when viewed in person but the "E" packages a much better television product.

I saw that they will be in Dayton on November 30, seriously considering a trip to see them.

Come on up! For the March show I hooked up with Pete and Swank and we had a very good time.

The pay-per-view has finally been available to me via On-Demand so I started watching about thirty minutes ago. Here are my initial reactions prior to my first coffee break:
- Morishima looked great as a total ass-kicking machine. Language barrier or not, his silence during the first segment was awesome! He looked brutal against BJ who, while I'm the biggest fan of, to his credit looked great in the match. Got Morishima over and gave him a very Samoa Joe 2004 feel. Great way to start the show.
- Awesome segment with Nigel, Morishima, and AmDrag. Great way to introduce the three biggest players of the fed and tease matches with all three. Classic Gabe booking there. (Did anyone else find it funny that after BJ said, "We talk through wrestling," they had this segment? I understood why, just thought it was funny.)
- Marufuji/Romero was entertaining for what it was. The spotty selling kind of left me unhappy, but fundamentally the match was as sound as one could ask for. Romero looks more and more like Ki every time I see him. Again, decent match but both really did poor job selling in this one, particularly Romero with the knee.
Marufuji should really get another shot with the GHC Title, he presided over a terribly booked reign and one of the worst Budokan Hall cards ever. Not to mention, two juniors fighting over the Heavyweight Title. That's for a different thread, but watching how crisp he is makes you really angry when you consider what goes on in NOAH.
EDIT: Side note on production: it wasn't that bad. It looks like they're using a higher-low end digital camera. Perhaps a Canon XL-2? It doesn't look as crisp as Vince's work because the WWE most likely uses Avid editing systems (probably Avid Symphony or Avid Symphony Nitrus) and ROH at best uses Final Cut Pro. It looks good for what it is and digital is really, really cheap to shoot on.
I'll be back with the rest of my thoughts after I finish, for now, coffee and cigarettes!

Finished the PPV:
The Good
* The Briscoes vs. Sydal/Castagnoli was terrific! The Briscoes work so well together it's like watching the Eaton/Lane Midnights. Sydal/Claudio also had great team chemistry. Sydal playing Ricky Morton was great and Claudio's portions of the match were impeccable.
* The Main Event. It was awesome. Four of my favorite workers in the ring putting on a serious ROH ME. I love Morishima and the booking of him on this show was PERFECT. I can't wait for Danielson/Morishima or Nigel/Morishima.
At Domination Danielson/Nigel taped a match for the second PPV and last year's defending champions of my MOTY will have quite the reputation to live up to.
The Bad
* Delirious being booked as a serious wrestler and Roderick Strong being on my television screen. I don't like Strong when he's not in a tag match or being booked against Danielson. I don't like Delirious when he's being booked as an actual threat to anything. The match was pretty boring too.
The Ugly
* The backstage fight between Generico/Jay Briscoe. Lighting is key, fellas. When you go big time you aren't pandering to people like myself who look over stuff like that, it will drive some viewers away.
All in all? A good show. The Morishima/Danielson vs. McGuinness/KENTA and the Briscoes vs. Sydal/Catagnoli were worth the ten bucks alone. To a certain extent so was Marufuji/Romero, but that match had some flaws the latter two didn't have. But a good PPV debut for ROH.
Earlier in the thread a poster made a comment about ROH throwing too much at you during a match. I agree with him to an extent, but he made a terrible example by pointing out CM Punk. Punk/Joe worked three TERRIFFIC matches and Punk's stuff prior to leaving ROH can be put up against any WWE's wrestlers's work during all of this decade and Punk would come out looking better.
The WWE isn't about pacing a match because, sadly, pacing isn't involved in the WWE. The WWE style is punch, kick, punch, contrived out of the ring action, finisher fest. That's not pacing a wrestling match. Punk had to learn the WWE style as he was working something very, very different.
Clearly you aren't famaliar with the man's work or you wouldn't have said that. For examples of this check out the period I mentioned, (From Death Before Dishonor III to Redemption in 2005) the three match series with Samoa Joe (best American matches of the decade, in my opinion), and then check out his stuff from FIP. Which looks like it's STRAIGHT out of Memphis.
Punk can/could work a variety of match, he just had to learn a very contrived/stale style before he could work in the WWE. Not how to pace a match correctly.

I don't mind Delirious being booked as a threat, but I do mind Roderick Strong being on my television screen

What's with all of the hate for the Messiah of the Backbreaker? Am I the only person who marks out for Roddy?

You are not alone. We should all bow down to the leader of the NRC and "Messiah of the Backbreaker".

I enjoy watching Roderick work, especially in tag matches. I think he makes a big contribution to the roster.
I am a huge Delirious mark (surprise, surprise), but they need to establish his character for its entertainment value on the national stage before pushing him in the ring. A lot of his shtick is old-school, insider-type stuff and might not play as well to the new fan.
