Pacific Northwest Championship Wrestling - Week One
Portland, Oregon
Match #1: Pacific Northwest Heavyweight Championship Tournament Match: Don Muraco defeated Jimmy Snuka at 10:05 with the Haiwaiian Hammer
- The very first match of PNWW kicked off with this legendary feud. Jimmy Snuka started off fast, hitting Muraco with chops that lit up his chest bright red. Snuka looked to have the match over when he hit the Superfly Splash perfectly (+5), but out of the blue, Bobby Heenan appeared, and distracted the referee! Muraco recovered, and blindsided Snuka from behind! Within a matter of moments, Muraco had dropped Snuka on his head with the Haiwaiian Hammer, covering his arch enemy for the three count to advance into the finals!
Match #2: Pacific Northwest Heavyweight Championship Tournament Match: Sting defeated Rick Rude at 7:50 with the Scorpion Death Lock
- These two hated enemies came at each other full blast, but it was Sting that proved to be the stronger of the two on this night. Sting made a show out of hitting Stinger Splash's one after the other. Bobby Heenan once again appeared at ringside, and tried to help Rude, but even their combined power couldn't stop the Stinger as he marched right through Rude with the Deathlock.
Match #3: Vader defeated Koko B. Ware at 2:14 with the Moonsault Press
- Before the match, Vader took the microphone, and screamed out why he should have been in the tournament for the title. Vader seemed content, however, to take his frustrations out on poor Koko, who bounced around the ring like a ping pong ball as Vader hit him. Vader finished the match with a Vaderbomb Powerbomb, and then hit the Moonsault to the amazement of the fans for the win.
Match #4: Dan Severn defeated The Sandman at 3:22 with the Wakigatame
- Before the bell rang, Severn tried to convince the referee to remove Sandman's cane from ringside. The referee, however, argued that Sandman just brought it down for show. Severn...wasn't amused, and took out his frustration on the hardcore icon. In what should have been a competitive match, it quickly became a one-sided squash, with Severn finishing it off with the Wakigatame.
Match #5: The Midnight Express defeated the New Impact Players at 15:43 when Eaton pinned Credible with a Flying Elbow
- Match of the night, as these two teams warred. At first, it looked like it would be an easy victory for the Midnight Express, but Corino and Credible refused to go down so easily, and nearly won the match countless times. In the end, it wasn't the Midnight's abilities that won the match, but their trickery proved to be the deciding factor. Cornette smashed Credible in the back of the head with the tennis racket, setting him up perfectly for the Bobby Eaton flying elbow for the victory.
Match #6: Konnan defeated Hacksaw Jim Duggan at 7:40 by DQ
- Konnan opened up the match by taking the microphone, and proceeded to berate both Duggan, and the fans in attendance in spanish, which only helped Duggan start a USA chant even more. A somewhat boring match, neither man was able to get anything really going. In the end, the fight spilled outside, and Duggan grabbed his 2x4! He chased off both Konnan and the referee, presumably getting himself DQ'd in the process.
Match #7: Pacific Northwest Heavyweight Championship Tournament Finals: Don Muraco defeated Sting at 6:17 with the Hawaiian Hammer
- Sting never seemed to get off the starting blocks, as rumors began to spread of foul play! However, Sting began to fight back and looked to have the match in hand, when once again Bobby Heenan reared his face into the match distracting Sting. Just like in his previous match, the distraction was all Muraco needed, and quickly finished off Sting with the Hawaiiwan Hammer to win the PNW Heavyweight Championship!
