How would you rank the top 20 COTG heels of all time?
I recently got the book "The Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame: The Heels" that ranks the top 20 heels of all time (10 of which are in LOW including the top 4 heels overall) and also has sections devoted to almost an additional 100 heels.
So I was just wondering, how you would rank the top 20 COTG heels (from a combination of GWF, CPC, and aCe) of all time. Would you make Thantos #1? Where would you rank guys such as Bishop Hell, Vengeance, Blazing Skull, Mandrill, Godsend, and Krakan?

Here's mine:
1. Thantos - The original.. he has to be #1 since he broke the code!
2. Vengeance - Clearly, he's not 2nd best wrestling wise, but he was the MOST evil, I think, and sure to put over as a face whoever he feuded with.
3. Blazing Skull - he DID kill a guy, after all
4. Bishop Hell - 1st illegal finisher has to count for something, and he comes in 2nd to Skull in 'most destructive in the ring'
5. Magnus Colby -- the Eric Bishoff of GWF
6. Cordanus - He and Colby are really sorta even, Colby gets the nod since he was actually able to start cPc, where Cordanus lost in the end.
7. Godsend - Great Evilness.. but is down here since he never seems to be the MAIN evil guy
8. Murdok - Needs better lackeys, but anyone who turns their opponents into Zombies is pretty high on the evil-o-meter.
9. Mandrill - I little generic for my taste, but still very influential
10. Dorado Sundown - before their time, really. They could easily be higher, but they sucked for me in the ring.
-------------------------- Next 10 (in no particular order)
Darkos, Chaos, Krakan, Doomsayer, Monolith, Mesmer, Gen. Rankor, Dreadnaught, Mad Jester, Splatter

1) Thantos - of course #1
2) Chaos - who else could make the top heel turn back face
3) Cordonus - drove the whole GWF out of the universe
4) Bishop Hell - first with the mechanic finisher - blinded Pulsar
5) Vengeance - drove the Gladiators to a civil war and still creates controversy to this day
6) Mandrill - drove the villains for a long time
7) Monolith - biggest bad*** ever in the GWF
8) Magnus Colby - the $$'s drove the COTG to split into more feds
9) Godsend - Satan reincarnate
10) Blazing Skull - killed a wrestler
11) Morpheus - created the villains; defied Omega and family
12) Thunder - Greatest Gladiator ever? slave to GWF Champion 13) Krakan - Hitmen for Hire 14) Murdok - Zombies are always great 15) Nicodemus - plans on killing everyone 16) Dorado Sundown - Heels before there were heels 17) Anarchy - Demons are just great 18) Genghis Khan - Attacked and scarred Pit-Viper 19) General Rankor - uses dead Flatliner / Holocaust 20) Doomsayer - Evil Genius

Maybe it's just me thinking from a "global" perspective, but Cordanus has to be #1. He succeeded in getting wrestling completely banned for years just from a power trip. He didn't even fight (in the ring, at that time at least) for any of his success. What fan would ever see him in anything other than utter revulsion?

True and I do agree.. just hard to think of anyone else but Thantos and Chaos when you see the word Heels... They pop into my head first. Then when you think about it the guys like Cordanus and to a lesser degree Colby come up..

1. Cordanus - Mark convinced me. I think we would all lean towards Thantos or Chaos first because they came first, but "real" GWF fans would definitely lean in the opposite direction.
2. Thantos - The only guy on Cordanus' level when it comes to revolutionary changes within the federation.
3. Vengeance - Jake the Snake x about a million. Thantos acted out through his own peculiar brand of honor and nobility. Cordanus acted out because of his petulance and egomania. Vengeance acted out because he enjoyed ruining people. When it comes to Pure Evil, he'd rank #1. Even ahead of...
4. Godsend - Being from the Second Realm is sort of like the anabolic steroids of evildom. It's an unfair advantage because it's in their nature. Vengeance was evil because he wanted to be, not because he had to be.
5. Mandrill - World-conqueror, slavemaster, bigot...and had an illegal finisher, to boot!
6. Krakan - Points for longevity, but kind of a Mandrill wannabe when it comes right down to it.
7. Blazing Skull - Back to the "choice vs. nature" thing. He's below Vengeance for that and below Godsend because Skull was limited to killing one dude and maiming another. Godsend has done much more.
8. Monolith - This may be as high as he's going to get. From an in-ring standpoint he's near the top but he has yet to spark intergalactic wars or kill multitudes of people or even change the course of a federation. He's a really, really good wrestler and a total bastard, but not Pure Evil. (Yet.)
9. Bishop Hell - The quintissential villain--another guy who was evil because he wanted to be. Pioneered the use of the illegal finisher, turned a boyish young teen idol into a one-eyed, bitter, revenge-minded vigilante, and hung around for about 74 years.
10. Murdok - Godsend wannabe, the same way Krakan was a Mandrill wannabe. That's still pretty damn bad, though.
11. Nicodemus - That "wiping out Primus" thing kind of vaulted him up pretty quickly.
12. Doomsayer - Was one of the most hated *and* feared men in the federation even though--outside of a 5-year window--he couldn't even walk. Ruined a multitude of careers of people he counted as friends, just to advance himself.
13. Thunder - Outside of the Vanguard during the Civil War, I've never been able to reconcile the Gladiators as heroes. The most successful singles Gladiator of them all.
14. Splatter - Not a ton of success when it comes to titles and such, but his loose-cannon persona and the infamous Lottery puts him on the list.
15. Dr. Barnabas - The Doomsayer of the CPC, though I think he actually might be uncaring and cynical than Domehead.
16. Magnus Colby - Was once on his way to a top-10 placement, but I think he actually has enough fans among CPC supporters that he has to drop some. 100 billion dollars to the Aethran military just to win a GWF tournament would be reason enough to put him on.
17. Mesmer - Career as a heel was too short to place him any higher, but he disturbed a lot of s*** when he was around.
18. Anarchy - Kind of a Blazing Skull lackey, which is too bad, because he was a better wrestler.
19. Mangus - I think he just edges out Dreadnaught. He never had a moment of redemption *and* he was instrumental in the heel turn and subsequent ruination of an American hero.
20. Vanity - Yeah, seriously. There's more to pro wrestling heeldom than being evil and scary, and nobody personified the other side of villainy than this guy.

Are we only talking about totally official characters or would Jack Hood fit in there somewhere too?

Pete, I like your write up on your list, especially the Godsend/Vengeance comparison... was evil because he wanted to be, not because he had to be.
But one I don't agree with was Thunder on there while Chaos was not. I never thought of Thunder as "evil" (although his race was, he was simply in the GWF for showing his superior wrestling skill, not taking over the universe), unlike Vengeance turned out.

10. Blazing Skull (Killer character! ). 9. Vengeance (COTG's Hannibal Lector). 8. Bishop Hell (The first real sense of pure evil in the game). 7. Morpheus (The classic GWF baddie). 6. Mandrill (Opressive dictator types are always good to fill a villain spot). 5. Murdok (Would infect every living creature with the Plague if the chance was given...that's pretty bad). 4. Godsend (Does it get any more wicked?). 3. Jack Hood (Who else has ever been blacklisted by the GWF?). 2. Cordanus (Shutting down the GWF is pretty hardcore). 1. Chaos (The most intimidating, ass-kicking villain there ever was). ~ :-Xsk

I actually don't think Chaos is getting enough love. He was the #1 heel by far for 10+ years...if he's not high on your list...your list is wrong.

#1: Powerhouse... How could he heartlessly soil his ex-tag team partner's reputation by using his gear to choke people?!?! And of course, he didn't even do it until Massif was retired, the coward. That to me, is more cowardly and heelish than anything.

1. Thantos - he broke the Galactic Code, he tore the GWF in two, and was THE bad guys for many, many years. The Gamemaster is #1 in my book. 2. Maramus - Take Maramus out of the picture and the last six or so years of COTG would be pretty peaceful. We haven't seen the last atrocity from this guy. No love for Maramus? 3. Cordanus - Mark convinced me too! 4. Chaos - the most intimidating man in COTG! Brutal and evil. 5. Godsend - the most pure evil of the bunch. 6. Murdok - poor Trisis! This guy has killed maybe more than anyone. 7. Blazing Skull - killed Crossfire and in my fed was the most hated man in history. Another being of evil. 8. Mandrill - this guy was NEVER good! He enslaved the AniMen and was all-around a bad dude. And one of the best wrestlers as well! 9. Mesmer - he colluded with evil powers and was responsible for Commando Sam! C'mon! 10. Vengeance - As far as Aethrans go, he was the worst of the bunch. He fought for blood and orchestrated the murder of Massacre. Boo this man! 11. Bishop Hell - Hellfire ran rampant! 12. Doomsayer - Transevolving mastermind 13. Magnus Colby - tried to put the GWF out of business 14. Dr. Barnabas - who wouldn't want to get their hands on this guy? Unless Rubicon was around, of course. 15. Rankor - traitor! 16. Krakan - feud with the ultimate face (Lord Nexus). Not a nice dude! 17. Janus - pure ego with the skills to back it up. 18. Jack Hood - never made the GWF, but no doubt he was an evil dude. 19. Matador of M83 - Chaos' right hand man and always in title contention. 20. Monolith - big and bad! Maybe the strongest of all time!
