1991. The first ad to catch my interest was one with Whiplash and Lord Nexus. Whiplash looked way cool, and it had a description of the Backside Beheading that made it sound like the most devastating offensive weapon in history. (Even in the 4th grade I was a sucker for a good clothesline.) But, it wasn't enough for me to beg for the game. What sent me from "That looks neat" to "GET ME THIS GAME NOW" was the second ad I saw: this one covering the Galactic Punisher vs. Bishop Hell feud. At the time, the Carter Bishop Hell drawing was the greatest thing I'd ever seen. I still think it beats Snelly's version easily. On top of that, according to the ad, there were four other guys like him (The Royal Court), he had this devastating, mysterious, illegal finisher...and then there was this police officer out to stop him. That was enough for me to determine that not only would this game rule, but that whoever was writing it really understood wrestling and storylines. No other game, even ones that were decent mechanically, ever had that kind of story detail. And that was just from one ad! Yeah...turns out my instincts were right. You just gave me chills bro. And usually that just doesn't happen to me .... because of a ... you know .... another guy.

I got into it with the Spike ad, like a lot of other people, and then lost all of my stuff during a move. I got back into it early in 2006 by ordering 2087 again and NB, and here we are!

Two things I didn't mention but since other people brought them up: 1. I did see an advertisement for SoW at the same time, but as I wasn't really familiar with NWA and Spike looked so cool, I ordered Champions 2. I lost my sets twice. Once after 2089, then again after 2092. However after seeing pictures of Enigma, Thunder, Colossus, and Soldier of Fortune, I knew I had to get back into the game. (It was a money issue for a while. But once I caught up, I've never had that problem again)

The Spike add in the 1980s.
But then I wasn't playing for awhile and lost all of my stuff in one of the many moves that I've had to make. LOW brought me back a few years ago and now I play everything: LOW, COTG, aCe, and very soon the CPC as I am currently in 2108 in my GWF fed.

As a long-time wrestling junkie, I have played many wrestling games and written my own. Started with Superstars of Wrestling, then had a stint in the play-by-mail "IWA" (and still have a trophy from back around '91.
Once I got a computer, a friend got me started with "Gutsmash" which was enjoyable, and in '93 I started playing Haffner's Rampage. Ran a Rampage fed for > 10 years until Haffner began losing interest in computer games.
I believe it was 2004 when I met Tom at Origins and played a game of Legends with my kids and Buff Bagwell. Bought the game for my sons, who played a good bit before losing interest. After playing at Origins 2005 with Hacksaw, I started my own fed and gradually phased out Rampage.
Came to my first Galacticon in 2006, and was pleasantly surprised at what a creative and fun group of guys I met. This got me even more stoked. After Galacticon 2007 I also started my first CotG thread and have been enjoying that.
My next hope is to hook up with CotG online players in some way once the site is fully functional. I think the comeradery of the CotG community, and the hands-on feel of the cards and dice, is what drew me to ditch Rampage in favor of LOW.

Funny that so many people ordered it from the Spike ads.
I remember my order form was the one, like a corner ad, where it had the faces of Star Warrior, Wolf, Brute and Massacre (I think it's in the GWF Files)
The caption with Wolf said "Move over Roddy Piper...and..Wolf is a hero, wait til you see the villains".

I first started seeing th COTG ads with the Spike ad in PWI. I hemmed and hawed about getting it for a number of years. They weren't real wrestlers, so how good could the game be? I did notice that more and more editions kept coming out, so I figured the game must have been decent if it kept expanding.
A friend of mine from church and I were big wrestling fans, and came up with a wrestling tournament game, which was fun but not realistic at all. In passing he mentioned how a friend of his had bought Champions of the Galaxy and it was alot of fun. All I needed was a testimony and I finally placed my order.
I stormed the ring and brawled...getting the first 7 sets, up to 2093, for $42 or so, and ever since I have bought every edition as soon as it came out. I lost touch with my friend from church, but did get an email randomly from him at one point, and I thanked him for getting me into COTG.

Similar story to most here.
I was a rabid wrestling fan from 1989 on, and I would spend my allowance on wrestling magazines each week. PWI was my favorite because it gave me "real" info I couldn't get on tv or from WWF Magazine.
Anyhow I'd noticed that COTG ad and thought it looked cool, but for some reason I never asked my parents about it. Then finally in June of 1991 I showed it to my dad and asked it I could get it. he said "maybe" and left it at that.
Over the next few months I brought it up whenever I bought a new PWI, and always got the same response. Little did I know that my dad had already bought the game and was going to save it for Christmas. Nor did I realize, on some random August day, that I actually got the envelope out of the mail and handed it to my Mom. I was 9, the mail was never for me!
That Christmas the GWF was my favorite gift, and my dad and I played tons of matches. The next day we started our own federation (he was the bad guys, I was the good guys) and Thantos was our first GWF Champion. Lucky for me The Greek Gods won our tag belts, and Pit Viper was our Interplanetary Champion.
After a few years of playing with my dad I tried playing on my own and realized I liked it. So I started my own fed, and started buying the other sets. I played into 2096 by 1998 but then a basement flood came along and destroyed some of my wrestlers, my charts, my results, my notebooks. I was pretty bummed to say the least.
I took a break from the game until about 2004. Then I restarted a fed in 2087 (I reordered the original set) and the next year I ordered New Beginnings and got officially "hooked" again.

Saw the original COTG ad in a PWI in the summer of 1986. Had Star Warrior in the Avenging Warrior mask, Renegade looking completely different, and Krakan with no bumps on his head. Sent off right away and I was hooked. I had already been playing Superstar Pro Wrestling game and I continued to play both until Superstar put out its last set (the NWA edition) in 1988. I don't get to play as much as I used to, but my interest for the game is still as strong as ever.

I first saw the Spike Babysitter ad waaayy back...and figetted figuring it would b like a NWA/WCW game that I recieved (the game edition first and two months later the instructions) but that system took entirely too long to play...so, I bought the original edition and when I recieved the original white envelope my friends and I started a fed right off...a few days later I bought Invasion I and have pretty much been hooked since...(a big doy from the peanut gallery)...shortly afterwards I wrote to Mark and joined Club Galactica and meet some really cool people (and some not so cool)...but anyway...i return you to your regularly scheduled board post reading...:-D

It makes me glad I didn't though, because that Christmas break (my dad always had two weeks off work at Christmas to coincide with my school break) was one of the best of all time thanks to COTG. My dad and I have played a ton of games together over the years, and we continue to do so now whenever I visit, but COTG is probably our all time favorite. There are few things that can make me as nostalgic for my childhood as busting out the 2087 cards and rolling a few matches.

PWI...I actually saw the ads as they were first coming out, but didn't order until Oct 87 as a birthday gift to myself.
Got the pkg around the end of Oct or beginning of Nov in 1987 and have been playing ever since.
What really got me to go COTG over Superstars was that COTG was NOT based on "real" wrestlers...i could see those guys on tv and wanted something different...i was just getting into Sci-Fi/Fantasy books and magazines as well and COTG was just right for me in that genre.

I first saw the add in P.W.I. magazine and I ordered the set from there i got the second set and so on up untill SuddenDeath 2094 .I have not got that far yet I'm only in the third book where Pit Viper turns heel .I even have an old Wolf T shirt .From the first match I had I was hooked .I stopped playing for a while but I have got back into playing and now I have a feud with Bishop Hell and Galatic Punisher who lost a fed exil match to Hell and now has returned under a mask and under the name of M.R.G.P and Bishop Hell has enlisted the help of Mad Jester to prove that G.P. is Galatic Punisher and rid him of the GWF once and all this is the only time I have made up a story line of my own and have kinda went outside of Tom's storyline. This is a fun game and it has made me buy Legends of Wrestling wich I kinda play a little more often .
