I remember in 1988 seeing the add for the game in a pro wrestling magazine. I was playing a game called superstar pro wrestling at the time, but thought the add looked to cool to pass up. within a couple of weeks, I received the white envelope in the mail. I played the game for a couple of years, but for some reason , never added any of the invasion sets. I got married in '91 and ended up losing my cards. I got back into the game when New Beginnings came out, and have been hooked ever since. So what got you guys to playing? I look forward to hearing your stories.

Ditto for me as well. Saw the ad in PWI in the late 80s, got it for Christmas.
Hard to believe I've been playing for over half my life.

I was going to actually start a similiar topic, but what got me was my Grandma actually got me the game for my birthday in 1990. My first ever card saw a tournament on my birthday with Pit Viper somehow escaping a cage and Star Warrior with the first ever GWF Galaxian title (now is my Earth title).
But I was going to start a topic with funny stuff that happened on the anniversary day. Just to put in perspective ...
AUGUST 27th - First ever card, first ever tournament, first ever cage match. Pit-Viper becomes the first ever champion. - On the 10th anniversary show we found out that Magnus Colby was the biological father of myself and Nora Pelf was my real mother. I was kidnapped when I was young and sent back in time to 1980. When I was 10 years old, my best friend and my actual great great great grandfather was the inventor of time travel and sent me back to the future. Colby has the patent on Kronos and that is what got him all his money (until he recently lost it all through shady dealings and is now missing). - Massif won his first ever title on August 27th - Massacre won his first ever singles title in the first ever Heavy Metal title tournament - Vengeance won his first ever title on August 27th.

My best friend saw one of the first ads in PWI, and ordered the set and told me about it. I followed suit. We were both immediately hooked. Sadly for him, he dropped off shortly before the Snelly years, and here I am, going stronger than ever!
At the time, we were in 8th grade and were dabbling with making our own wrestling games. I had conjured up some crazy chart-based one involving UNO Cards.....when we saw a professionally-made game, plus with a cool sci-fi theme, it had to be tried.
20 years later, I can't begin to say how glad I am that we did.

Saw the adds in PWI with Wolf and Spike back in the late 80's. Stopped watching wrestling for a while and got back into it in the mid ninties. Saw the ads again. I sent for the first set. We moved and it got packed up. Around 2000 I noticed Tom's name on a Pittsburg convention guest list that a friend was going to. It wasn't a month or so later Just on Sanudo emailed me about doing my first bootleg art. I dug out the set I had bought and the rest is history.
Like Aquinas, I liked making my own stat and chart games. I had a stat and chart baseball game all figured out at one time. It was realistic in pitching and hitting but the fielding wasn't there. When I got cotg in the mid ninties I made the entire WWF roster and I didn't even know the rules very well. CotG was a logical step.

I remember finding the site by mistake at around 2004/05 while I was looking for those wreslting simulators you'd find the E-Feds using. I was intrigued but didn't think much about it. Then back in around August last year I remembered about the game and looked at the reviews, saying that the game works really well. So I ordered New Beginnings and now here I am.

I saw the pwi ad for a while, and finally sent in for the first 6 game editions in 91'. Looking back i wonder why i bought them all at once when i wasn't sure how it would be. I kept telling me brother i had a suprise coming. We were wrestling fans, and we also played a baseball board game called Pursue the Pennant. The game took about six weeks to come, but he wasn't interested so i always played on my own.

Saw the Bishop Hell ad in PWI, and it had me mesmerized !!
First went to all the game stores in Melbourne, obviously no one had it or even heard of it. Sent a cheque and 10 days later had the game. Played the first few editions for years. I had no idea new editions came out every couple of years ( gee, I miss that ). Then got a flier in the mail. ( about 2 years later) Been playing ever since. I also think that even if I "stop"playing, I will still buy the game, just for the stories and characters.

Read PWI, saw Spike bought first 5 editions and then got a great fan of teh game. Ditto. I lived in Germany at the time, and religiously read PWI (Mom worked in the Stars & Stripes bookstore on post). I begged my mom to order it for me and she finally did shortly before 2092 came out. Of course, I didn't know about 2092 , and was just thrilled to finally have a wrestling game. I played it for a while, and when we came back stateside, I found out about more editions, and reordered everything through 2096. I played those editions until graduating from high school, and then a couple years ago...probably close to eight actually...I found this website and ordered the Storm the Ring and have been ordering everything as they come out since. Much the same as soug, if I ever do stop playing, I will most likely continue to order everything COTG oriented to keep up with the story...but I don't think I'll stop playing for a long, LONG time. Peace. ~Trav

I got it when it first came out and played the first two editions. Then I graduated high school in 1989 and went to college. Sitting in the dorm room rolling dice didn't seem too cool so I lost touch with the game for the next 17 years and saw a LOW ad in PWI. Ordered LOW. Played that for awhile until I couldn't suspend reality with some upsets and then ordeded New Beginnings. I am now in June of 2121. I have plans of some day going back to 2087 to build a history but it might be hard since in each edition year I have one card of eight matches per week which amounts to 416 matches a year. Man, I've rolled 1000 matches in the 2 1/2 game years. Geez.

As a kid I was a 'hardcore' pro wres fan...buying every Apter Mag and affiliate on the market. From the moment I first saw the Filsinger Ad in PWI (I think in '87) I was hooked. Since that time I've brought the game for others and to this day find it to be a great use of leisure time...safe for kids and challenging for adult creativity.

My story is pretty standard. I was a huge wrestling fan as a kid, and religiously read every wrestling magazine that my small town grocery store stocked, which surprisingly enough was several. It's a bit fuzzy now, but I bet about 1988 I noticed the ad in PWI. I remember asking for the game two christmas' in a row without success. Then my sister finally relented and got me my first set for my twelfth birthday. Even though the game hadn't progressed that far yet, it still took me a while to catch up to current. I've had my moments when I just wasn't able to fit the game into my life, but 17 years later I'm still current and now I just attended my fourth Galacticon this year. I've entered every Create-A-Character contest that there has ever been(never won though), I've been part of Promoter Madness, and I've had more than one article published in the Promoter. The GWF is my favorite obsession.
My least favorite is hand-sewing classic burlesque outfits for iguanas and videotaping their performances for my fellow inmates. You know what they say, if life hands you lemons, and a 25-to-life maximum security sentence, hand-sew classic burlesque outfits for iguanas. (JK)

Just like everyone else I seen a PWI Bishop Hell ad in 88 or 89 and being 8 or 9 I begged my mom until she ordered it for me. I played for years without keeping any kind of results and stopped playing sometime in high school only making it to 2093. While in college I got a mail flier and bought a couple more editions but it was New Beginnings that really got the ball rolling again. I got to 2103 in my past fed with results from 2091 to 2103 documented. I really have to go back to the original years and redo the history but I may wait until COTG online gets those years for sale. I wonder when I stopped buying PWI because I remember as a kid always going to the pharmacy and picking it up.
