I read the book last night and I look forward to playing. This question is for the people that were current when 2119 came out. Nowhere in the book does it state you have to strip titles and claim new champions, when this set was released, did everyone start over with tournaments?
If so, what was the reason in your fed? The depression? Massif determined it for some other reason?
If not, a simple, my champs stayed the same, would be sufficient.

I wasn't current when the set came out, however I have an older fed I play and if I ever get caught up (BIG IF) they will be considered on the same timeline.
My thinking is that late in 2118 the GWF closed down because of the depression, and when it restarted all the titles were vacant to give a fresh start. That's how I started off my 2119 so that it could eventually sync up with the rest.

When I started playing CotG and read about the events leading up to 2119 I decided that the titles would be stopped as the two dimensions battled. Once everything ended, Commissioner Massif decided to start off fresh by replacing the Galaxien titles with Galactic titles. Since everything was new to me I felt I was supposed to start from scratch with the set, as it is meant to be.

Basically I hadn't played since The End storyline so I jumped at New Beginning, but the way I explained it was that my champs were gone and they needed to decide new champs with a tournament.

I stopped playing GWF at 2119 but will go back to it with online. I planned out how to fill the vacant singles and tag team titles and will only go with two belts at the start. I'd have to look back at who were the champions but a lot left after 2118 so I used the depression angle and a new start.
I'm having Endgame vs. Disaster for the GWF title. Disaster was the last I-P champion. Stars & Stripes vs. Troubleshooters for the tag team titles. T-shooters were the last I-P tag title holders and S&S were the only remaining team that had been GWF tag champs in the past.
The title matches will take place at New Beginnings. Leading up to that I'm holding #1 contender singles and tag tournaments.

The Gladiators owed virtually all of the gold in my fed except for the GWF Title. Since Malice & Thunder left, I vacated their titles and had tournaments to crown new Tag Champs and a new IP Champ. I never brought back the Heavy Metal and Holovid Titles, as I didn't think that they were necessary with the smaller roster (although I am thinking about bringing back one of them- probably the Holovid Title- at the end of 2121 or in 2122).
Really, you could say that Massif wants a "clean start" after all of the turnover, or you could keep your champs. Both would work in the continuity, just like it would from the Classics years to the Original Set.

The only difference being from Classics to the Original Set, it stated a title tournament was held. I guess I just wanted to know, what was official.

After some digging I found my posts about starting 2119 when it was coming out. I had champs that left after 2118 but wanted to go back to just the two main championships. Here is how I set up for the start of 2119, my posts from 2004.
Looks like I'll be vacating a lot of titles and I guess de-sanctioning them. I'm going to have just the singles and tag titles like in 2074.
Thunder and Malice were GWF and TV champs respectively. They are gone. The 4th Realm were tag champs. They are gone. The Gladiators were six-man champs. They are gone. See a trend here?
Commissioner Massif considered declaring Endgame the new GWF champion since he won Survival of the Fittest that started with 100 wrestlers. He also thought about awarding the Troubleshooters the Galaxian tag belts since they are the current I-P tag champions.
But titles are meant to be won in the ring. So in one month's time at a special GWF event, 'A New Beginning,' it will be Endgame vs. the Interplanetary champion Disaster to determine the new GWF champion. The I-P title will then be left vacant until the championship committee decides to reinstate it.
The Troubleshooters will face Stars & Stripes with the winners becoming the new GWF tag team champions. US Male and American Guy were chosen for this match as they were tag team champions before the 4th Realm won the belts and are the only team on the current GWF roster to have held the gold.
Both of these title matches will be best 2 of 3 falls.
Commissioner Massif announced plans for the first several shows of the reformatted GWF. The Galaxian title and GWF tag team titles will be decided at A New Beginning. On the shows leading up to and after that event, a 6-man singles and and an 8-team tag team tournament will be held. These tournaments will be used to get the rankings in line and the winners will get a championship match following the pay-per view.
In the tag-team tournament are:
Tristan & Payback (The Fighting Titans) Valour & Reckless (The Guardians) Antak & Minotaur (Animen Invasion) Tauran & Anivar (Genesis) Tanck & Betrayer (Society of Death) Havoc & Paralyze (Gladiators) Amazing Mann & Steele Freak (Center Stage) Epoch & Slave Beast (Colonizers)
The singles tournament participants are:
Bloodline Switchblade Swarm Encubus Sly Drury Kill Prey
The six competitors will wrestle a first round match. The three winners will then face each other in round robin matches to determine the tournament winner.
The matches and brackets have been determined for the singes and tag team ranking tournaments.
#1 Contender Tag Team Tournament
First Round
Epoch & Slave Beast vs. Tauran & Anivar Valour & Reckless vs. Gladiators Animen Invasion vs. Tanck & Betrayer Amazing Mann & Steele Freak vs. Tristan & Payback
The singles tournament will be one round with the three winners facing off in round robin matches to determine the #1 contender. Switchblade vs. Encubus Swarm vs. Bloodline Kill Prey vs. Sly Drury
