Tom made this point on the Miscellaneous section but I'm going to repeat it here.
READ THE FIRST FOUR PAGES OF THE HANDBOOK BEFORE EVEN LOOKING AT THE CARDS.
I don't mean to play the "This is great and I can't tell you why--just trust me" game...but just trust me. At the Holiday Inn we couldn't even get the cards before reading the handbook, and it paid off.

That is awesome to hear. I can't wait. I only wish I had gone overnight instead of 2-day. Grrr!

I normally look at the cards first, but reading the book was ABSOLUTELY the right thing to do. If you don't, you're doing yourself (and no one else) a huge disservice.

Blacked out below for those who maybe have not read the spoilers Jim Steel posted Saturday and still want to be surprised.
It doesn't matter guys they already know about Endgame...I suppose you could be talking about the Plethador/Thantos thing but that's not nearly as shocking as reading about the Monolith/Endgame double turn.

I called it. Anyone think Endgame might be in for a heel turn? Maybe a role reversal with Monolith?

If we're all being worked about these spoilers (and more and more I think we are) I have 2 things to say....
1. I'll be PISSED because I really like the idea of the two guys mentioned switching sides.
and
2. I'll be really happy because it's hilarious and really, really creative.

The booklet is a must read and that's all I'll say. Tom outdid himself in 2122.

I'll second Troy on this-2122 is one of the best game editions I have seen in a long time!

If this is a work...I'll admit, I didn't call it. I'm starting to think it's a work.

I usually glance through the new cards, then read the booklet. But I believe I will do the opposite for this edition.

I usually glance through the new cards, then read the booklet. But I believe I will do the opposite for this edition. This is how you have to do it. It will be hard, but that is the way Tom designed it, made us do it, and if you do it too, you will be happy you did. That's all I'm saying.

See, and here I thought Tom was all about Creative Expression, I didn't realize it was only Creative Expression under Approved Conditions.
My Bad.

Good god, the petty bickering all over the board about stupid bullshit is getting really annoying.

I read the manual beforehand anyway, so I'm definately doing it once I make and get the order. And Wildfire, everyone is just asking us to do this so we can really appreciate the storyline. I'm not going to stop you from doing what you want with the set.

What ever happened to 'Its up to you, Promoter!" Of course "it's up to you, Promoter!" Tom isn't sending you the booklet by itself- he's sending you the booklet and the cards simultaneously so you can look at them in any order you want. Everyone on this board knows how much I respect Tom, but I will admit that I thought it was weird (even hokey) that he was being so secretive about the cards. Then I read the story and I realized just how right Tom was about this one. Seriously, I know that there's a tendancy for a few people out there to say "no one has a right to tell me how to read this edition", and you're right. But if you do it the way that I (and virtually EVERY SINGLE OTHER ATTENDEE) recommend, you will enjoy it just a little bit more. My two cents....

See, and here I thought Tom was all about Creative Expression, I didn't realize it was only Creative Expression under Approved Conditions. My Bad. This post is so out of leftfield, I don't know what to say other than this: Tom has never in my memory supressed creativity in any way. If you want to look at the cards first, go for it. You're the only one who loses out in that case.
