12-21-2012 actually seems to be "judgment day" according to the ancient Mayan calendar, from what I can find, so it's apparently not based on our system, as surprising as that may seem given the neat look of the date. (I had the same thought as Pete before I looked into it.)
What I'm seeing is a lot of pseudo-scientific mumbo-jumbo that is about on a par with astrology in fortelling the future.
The Mayans were good at a lot of things. But I'm doubting this is one of them.

Scratch deeper, there's more to it than just mumbo-jumbo as you say. The planets will all be a lined on that day. The Mayans were OBSESSED with keeping time and their calendar just ends on that date. I don't know but I think there's something to that date cosmically. Call me crazy, but time will tell.

Thank goodness Gore has brought peace to the world. Thank goodness Bush override him and brought war to the world and high oil prices and..................... this could go on forever. Bush should and will go down as one of the worst Presidents this country has ever had IMO.

Bush would have to do a whole lot worse to usurp Jimmy Carter as the worst President this country has ever had.

Mark, Pete, Pete B. or anyone. Do you put any stock in anything happening on 12-21-12 ? No.

And the Mayans were a little less-than-prescient on the whole Hernan Cortez thing.

On my final note, what is the rational argument for Carter being a worse President than Harding or Nixon?
When it comes to Worst President discussion, it's those two and everyone else as far as I'm concerned. As ineffective as Carter was, he wasn't going to be removed from office (Harding was a dead duck until the sweet saving grace of death bailed him out) and he didn't resign in disgrace.
I don't even want to get into a discussion of the guy in charge now, so I'll just say that Harding and Nixon were the biggest Presidential failures imaginable.

James Buchanan is also definitely one of the worst US Presidents ever.

Anybody from Martin Van Buren to James Buchanan pretty much qualifies for the bottom quarter of presidents in my book.
Carter and Bush have been bad in different ways. But for his disregard of the Constitution and his power-grabbing ways, I think Bush wins that head-to-head matchup. Carter was just incompetent.

while I think that Bush is a lousy president, to be fair you cannot judge a president's administration while he is in office... it will take a few years before historians can accurately assess his impact.
Of course, that's also the same line that Dubbya would give you, as he will gladly tell you that he would love to compare himself to Harry S Truman, a president who was extremely unpopular at the end of his presidency, but stayed the course and is generally viewed upon favorably years later.
