What would be justice is if they would sentence them to feet-first shredding in one of those death machines he sent so many people to.
I'm not a liberal on the death penalty, if you couldn't tell.

At least they convicted him. Milosevic was on trial for like 6 years and died before they even found a verdict with the stupid world court.

There are a lot of evil crimes that the death sentence for one cruel tyrant and a few of his allies won't make up for after twenty-some years of abusive power. And a lot of questions that won't be answered as to the extent of his crimes if they put him to death right away.
Saddam is an evil, evil man. And a very smart one too. I just hope he doesn't get the last laugh by turning himself into a martyr.

Apparently the case is being appealed and will go before a panel of judges who have "UNLIMITED" time to review the case. If they end up agreeing with the verdict then Saddam will be hanged within 30 days of their ruling.

hang em...burn em...toss him in jail for 100 years. Makes no real difference to me.
Personally i think rotting in jail for the rest of your life is a hell of a lost worse then being hung.

I do too, but here's the thing...being hanged is a million times more humiliating than being jailed to a guy like him...just knowing he will be hanged in front of millions of Americans is probably enough to make the guy go crazy... which is strong.

He should be locked in a cell with Carrot Top and K-Fed. He'd kill himself in about 3 days.

just knowing he will be hanged in front of millions of Americans is probably enough to make the guy go crazy... Actually, my fear is that he'll do the exact opposite and make himself a martyr for the Iraqi people. Already his lawyer has released statements that Iraqis should not retaliate for his sentence, etc. And before his sentence, he was calling for Iraqis to end the sectarian violence and unite against the American soldiers -- going as far as to forgive the informants that led to the deaths of his sons. Basically appealing to the pride of Iraqis vs. us. I hate to admit it, but he's one charismatic dictator, which was probably how he got there in the first place. Saddam is a very, very intelligent man, and intelligent men like him are the scariest of all. The introductory course on International Relations at my school includes a prophetic letter that he wrote that predicted how the Cold War would end, and laid out a plan for how he was going to assert himself in the Persion Gulf and on the global scene in general. Thankfully he bungled his plan by making the very mistakes that he himself said that the Arabs should avoid. He may get the last laugh by issuing a statement about how evil us Americans are, and get some of the Iraqis to send more attacks on our troops. And for that I hate him.

it's hard to say anyone who lives in a hole in the ground a very smart man, but I see your point...

I saw this big documentary on the History Channel and this guy is one sick dude. He murdered probably hundreds of thousands of people and destroyed as many families. Those people didn't get a chance to an appeal or to sit in jail.
Kill him. The sooner the better. If the Iraqi people view him as a martyr, then they are just stupid. This man didn't care who he killed. Russians, Iranian, Americans, Iraqis. He just didn't care.
And neither should we.
Just get him off the earth ASAP.

I think that his legal team is putting out statements to help his appeal, but Saddam himself said "Death to Isreal, Death to America" and death to someone else at the sentencing. Ultimately, the Sunni ethnic group (Saddam is a Sunni) will have a large percentage (relatively speaking) of people who will be upset by this, but the Shia and Kurds are celebrating. Since they outnumber the Sunni by about 3 to 1, I doubt that Saddam will ever be a "hero of Iraq". His death might help spark some Sunni violence, but I doubt that it will be a rallying point for the nation.

I talked to someone about this last night (older fellow), and he said that Saddam would probably die of old age before they hang him...He said it took 3 years to get a death sentence conviction for him and a couple of his accomplices (whatever you want to call them), but that he still has 18 more charges to face..? By the time they get through all the charges and appeals Saddam will have already died...
Is there any truth to this, or was the guy I was talking to just, well, talking..? Personally I think if he got the death penalty, why not just hang him and get it over with..? I mean really...If he gets a not guilty verdict on his other charges, is that going to make him less dead at the end of it..? And what happens if he's guilty..? They kill him 18 times..?
Anyway the guy that mentioned this may have been off base, but in this day and age, I could totally see this happening...

I believe he only gets one appeal and they execute him like within a month if his appeal fails. I think there's a good chance they could have him executed within 5 years.

Well hopefully this doesn't ignite and lead to more attacks in Iraq. My brother (who just got married on Saturday) goes back on deployment over there in April.
